Believe what you want but I've been in that truck on the interstate and its all it has to run 70. It just doesn't have the power up there. Remember this is a fully loaded 9' utility truck too. I'm sure empty it would do better but being used as a truck it just doesn't have it. The ford forums also say an obs 7.3 gets 17-18 and tgsts bs too. All I run for work trucks are Fords so you take it for what its worth. If you want a gas truck that gets decent mileage go GM. Also unless they changed something my 5.4 F250 governs out at 90. I spend every day in that truck and it averages at best 10. Its been in the 3-4 range loaded down for winter.

The people that went from the 5.4 to the 6.2 are reporting it's a great improvement, even the 6.8 V10 guys are impressed. For one thing, the 5.4 had a 4 speed auto, the 6.2 gets a 6 speed.

What weight was your truck again with all the stuff it normally carries?

My work truck or my buddies 6.2? Also after 2005 the 5.4 has the 5 speed 5R110W auto.

Your work truck was the 5.4, I think. So your buddies 6.2 is what I am asking about.

I am reading through this thread here:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1140192-6-2-mpg-update.html

Not that this debate matters anymore, as I think I have my heart set on another Ram with a Cummins. One of my coworkers has an '08 Mega with the 68RFE and I don't think he's had any issues with it, and it's sat in our yard for 50% of the last 6 years, while we've been away working.

Last time across the scales it was just under 21k. F450, 9' utility bed, crane and all gear. They are regretting not getting the diesel now. My work truck is between 10 and 16k depending on the hopper being full. I like Fords but they suck for fuel mile period.

Meh, the only reason your mileage sucks imo, is because you are running so heavy all the time. I'd expect not so great mileage towing heavy with a gasser. Then again, if you're towing heavy all the time, you'd be an idiot not to get the diesel. In my area most people that have the diesels do not need them, they are more of a status symbol.

Running empty my 5.4 only gets 10. When they first brought that 6.2 home it got 12.7 and it didn't have a bed. Hell even my power stroke running empty stays between 10.5-12mpg.

A buddy was telling me the new Dodges with the 6.4 Hemi aren't bad at all.

I still think the day of gas is winding down - diesel is becoming more and more sensible as we move forward.

Well with diesel being a dollar more per gallon then gas around here lately its upped the gas truck sales. This is my 09 F250 with a 5.4. It has a 1000 pound empty V-box in the bed now. This is my normal mileage in the winter or pulling the trailer.

I was a little worried about the 6.4L hemi since it's the first year they're putting it in a truck, but it's been around for awhile in the Challenger, right?

Your 5.4 is an outlier, a freak. Just cause your mileage sucks, doesn't convince me to stay away, when others are getting ok mileage with a gas engine. I'd be ok with getting 15 mpg highway unloaded. Based on what other 6.2 owners are saying, thats not unreasonable at all.

Okay we have 2 at work and they both get the same mileage. They other one is driven by a 54 year old man so its not just my driving style. I got the se crap about the obs Power strokes were great on fuel from the ford Forums which is bs. Buy whatever you want just trying to give a friendly heads up from real world experience I could really careless.

Thanks for the heads up, I don't mean to piss you off. I don't think I want the 6.2L anyway after seeing the videos of people towing with them, and having to scream up hills at 3500 rpm, and sometimes having to drop down into 3rd gear. :yuck:
