I know comparing a 518 truck to a g56 truck is apples to oranges, but how does it accelerate, hold speed, etc. compared to your old '92? I'd believe that weight and power were pretty close between the two. The extra displacement is the variable I'm trying to isolate.

I've been thinking hard about buying this one.

I'm still getting used to shifting the G56, but the new truck is probably about the same or a tiny bit slower than my old truck. It's just way more refined though, obviously. It accelerated to 95 mph quick enough when I did a 6th gear roll on passing somebody on my way home yesterday. Power is adequate, but it's not all powerful. It is satisfying enough. A programmer would enhance it even more.

BTW, my '92 weighed 6200 (I weighed it a few years ago), this truck weighs 7200 (according to the ram towing guide). I might take it into work Sunday when no one is around and weigh it too.

That one is 41k. I just can't get over paying that much for a truck. I'd have to sell everything off.

Did your 92 sell locally, or to anyone on here?

I dig the new one you bought. I'd love to have a new chassis cab with an aluminum bed, but it's not something I can afford right now.

Bare bones truck, which is cool, but I think all trucks should come with FULL instrumentation. The tradesman package comes with just four gauges stock, speedo, tach, fuel, (cant remember the fourth), complete with a full assortment of dummy lights... and better instrumentation as an option. The other issue is that it is a base model, but it has electric shift 4wd :puker: Its now easier to find a manual truck than one with manual shift 4wd  I've really been looking hard at 4th gens, and selling the VW, but I've found ONE out of hundreds I've looked at that is close to what I want, but it was a short bed. If I am going to spend 30k-50k, I want it exactly how I want. Working at a Power Plant has its perks, but time off to do maintenance and other parts of life has become very short. It would be nice to just get in something new and not have to worry about things for 60k miles. By then I'll be a journeyman and will actually have time off...

I sold it locally. I keep my truck out at my parents house, and it's easily seen from the highway. They got approached by people at least once a month, so it was easy to sell.

The 4th is DEF tank level. If you access the EVIC you can also see coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure, turbo boost, fuel mileage  , etc. A letdown for me was you can't get manual front hubs, so you have to rely on the 4wd actuator.

That's a pretty color andy.....I've been tossing around the idea of selling off all my junk and buying a newer crewcab but I just don't know if I can let my 1st gen go.....lol

I wouldnt be opposed to a newer truck. But id have to have a d/w series laying around somewhere. I cant not own one. This is literally the only kind of truck Ive ever owned. The longest Ive been without one since I started driving is about 3 months.

I feel the same Jeff. I'd keep The Pile and sell my VW. I'm sure the payments and insurance is a little steep, and after fuel, that's $1000/month I'm guessing. That's a lot of coin. Saving up a mound of money would be my only option, buy it cash out right.

That is a great looking truck and 18mpg isn't bad at all. I'd love to have a new truck but if I get one I think it'd be a 1500 with the V6 "EcoDiesel."

Congressional, very nice truck. I love regular cabs! We have a newer one like that at work and it drinks DPF fast.
