Yeah, that's good you are getting decent mileage with your 4th gen. I assumed decent diesel mileage when I was running the numbers in my 3rd post.

From reading a bit over at TDR the '13 and '14 Cummins (whenever they started using urea, which I think was '13) are getting pretty damn good mileage. I've seen a few with 4x4 crew cab, longbeds claiming they've been getting right at 20mpg once they put 6K miles or so on it.

I'm looking at gassers though. I really like the Ford 6.2L as well.

I did a 2000 km round trip this weekend with the 09 chevy, got 9 mpg pulling an empty 28 ft (I think) flat deck. Got 6 mpg, or about 300 kms on a full tank of fuel. Low fuel warning light came on 15 Kim's till empty. And i mean empty. 20 feet from the gas pump lol. Was running 4th gear about 60 percent of the time loaded, about 3000 rpm, not enough torque to maintain 60 mph at 2200 rpm in 5th at the slightest hint of elevation or puff of wind. Pull ing the trailer empty Was running in 5th 90% of the time.6th was only usable downhill with empty trailer. Loaded weight I would guess around 10 or 11K. Lots of top end power though, pulled a steep river hill at almost 70 mph loaded. After running out of fuel I put the Chevy on the trailer and hooked up my 96, did the remaining 750 kms of my trip at 65 mph in 6th with the cruise on. On one tank of fuel. I kinda forgot I was pulling a trailer a couple times lol. Pyro averaged 560 to 700 post turbo, hit 700 a couple times on a couple steep hills. I really don't like the lack of power below 3k rpm on the Chevy, maybe the new ones with variable valve timing are better.

Yeah, I kind of decided to stick with what I got for right now. I came to the realization that it makes no sense to live in the ghetto, in my ghetto 5th wheel, with a ghetto beater car... AND then have a brand new pickup truck  I'm going to stick with my ghetto tow vehicle as well. Gotta stay inline with the ghetto theme.

I am going to make some changes on it, that I think will make it a better towing vehicle. Gonna throttle is back a notch in the "hot rod" department..

Stay away from the Ford gas trucks for fuel mileage. My 5.4 at work gets about 9 on the interstate and a friends 6.2 is doing about the same. I average about 4-5mpg towing about 10k.

Shoot, our gas powered F550 bucket trucks get 3-4 mpg...granted they weigh in 15k, and have V10's in them...

Just FYI the price on the sticker is nowhere near what you will likely pay. My friend bought a standard cab 6 speed 6.7 dodge stipper model that stickers for 38+ for 28K. So don't be scared of options and picking the diesel - you may be able to get the price where you thought it would be building that gasser online. I would say if you're buying new go for diesel regardless of the option price simply because selling used gassers is a serious task!

28k.... that's the same price as the year end blow outs were nearly 10 years ago. Good price on a "work" model.

Sorry I should have been clear. This was a couple years ago on a 3rd gen not the latest 4th. With that said I got 6-7k off a diesel grand cherokee recently (right when they first came out and were more rare than they are now). So the discounts off sticker can be done - my dealership had an "internet" price listed and I think I got another $500 of that price to make my total savings.

Last year I had a crew cab base model 6 speed 4x4 down to 29k. It was brown and had sat on the lot for almost a year so they were trying to move it. I've found a few deals like that but I just can't swing it.

Yeah, I am confident I can get 8-10K off MSRP fairly easily. and that applies to gas or diesel, so the gasser is still going to be 8-10K off MSRP and another 8K less than that. I think what I am going to do is save up about an 8K down payment to cancel out the diesel price difference. I'm still on the fence though as I really hate my job, and I might become a slave to it if I had a big truck payment to worry about. I might even save up another year to make the payment more reasonable.

I don't know. I don't really need the diesel as I don't hardly tow or tow very heavy, buuut it would be nice to have just in case. The F-250 6.2L guys seems to love their trucks, but they do drink the gas. I am considering the 4.30 gears, but with a little bit taller tire to knock down the rpms a little. The forum I joined says the 4.30's knock mileage down another 1 mpg, but they tow way better, especially heavy.

With 4.30 gears your limited to 70 mph also. I have some friends with one and its a heavily loaded utility truck for their farm. They love it but it is only getting 4mpg and never gets above 45-50mph.

that has to hurt the pocket book......with that kind of mileage it would almost pay for a diesel.

I don't know where you're getting your numbers from, as I don't believe them. I joined a Ford forum and none of your numbers are jiving with what they are saying, at all.

If 4.30's could only go 70 mph, the other ratio 3.73's could only go 85 mph, I'm sure that is not the case.
