I think this is the end of the road...

Postby cmann250 » Fri Aug 08, 2014 2:01 pm

As the title insinuates, I had a lapse in judgment on a gravel road and put my Dodge in the ditch on Wednesday.

I took out the grille, stone guard, core support, radiator, fan, driver's fender, driver's inner fender, and hood. So in short of finding an '89-'93 diesel front clip quickly and cheaply, I'll be moving on to something newer and four wheel drive.

Honestly I've been thinking hard on unloading this thing all summer since I "need" 4wd so often and I've really been wanting the creature comforts and increased towing capacity of a newer truck. Plus the 1st gen market has been booming around here. Sadly I am not the least bit sentimental about vehicles. I liked to say that I couldn't afford to replace it, but I always had a realistic price in my head where I could part with it.

If anyone in my 1stgen family that is close has a core support/radiator or whole front clip they could part with, please let me know. I'm giving myself until next Wednesday (8-13) to hunt for parts. If I have not secured the needed parts my then, it's coming apart and being scrapped.

Thank you :salut:

It couldn't be perfect. Then it wouldn't match the rest of the truck.

I'd drive several hours if I could find everything in one place for the right price.

I'm waffling here. If I sold off parts and dipped into savings a bit, I could have a middle of the road newer 4x4 diesel. I just did the math and I cannot make a gas truck work.

Eric, I'm trying to be careful and consider all the options here.

Caleb I have the old Grille and filler panel out of the brown truck you can have if you need it. There are a few at my local pull and pay I'll try to check out for you. I've got a non ic fan shroud too.

I don't have much in the way of body parts anymore. I used all of them up. I think it was farmboy that got the complete dog house I had.

About all I have is bottom grille valence panel and my old grille.

If you were on Facebook, there's a guy in NE IL, northwest of Chicago, who parts these trucks. Look him up on Craigslist. Johnsburg is the town I think. Jeff Frandrich.

No. Just plain old no. The options are 2nd gen 12v and OBS 7.3L. Unlike everyone else, I want a regular cab auto 2500 or SRW F-350. Everyone else wants the manuals, extended cabs, crew cabs, and duallies. So the ones I want tend to be reasonably.

I don't want to seem like I'm jumping ship, but I have to find a point to say "when" on this truck. This may be it. I also need to build some credit

I'd jump on a 4x4 1st gen in a minute, but "project" 4x4 trucks fetch $5k+ around here where respectable, road ready 2nd gens fetch about $6k. Sharp, well taken care of 1st gens pop up for 8-12 grand  I just can't make it work. :( Am I missing something?
