Walking tractor...

Postby meby » Mon Dec 22, 2014 3:46 pm

I picked up an old walking tractor last week and am trying to identify it. I'll get a picture of it tomorrow. It appears to have been orange originally, but I can't find any markings. Does anyone know of a good website (with pics?) or a book on walking tractors?

Okay. I identified it as a Speedex. I haven't been able to nail down exactly what model, but its nice to know what it is. I intend restore it (sort of). Since I don't know what model it is and it came without an engine, I'm going to paint colors of my own choosing instead of the red and yellow from the factory.

a cart to ride on. he don't use it much but that's OK.

My grandfather had a Simplicity when I was growing up. He used it to cultivate his garden. He had all kinds of attachments for it, a land plow, sickle mower, reel mower, cultivator with a bunch of different heads, and maybe a snow plow too. It's been a long time so I'm not positive on that one.

It turns out the orange is actually faded red...Its definitely a Speedex. I found a casting mark between the wheel and the gearbox. I just don't know what the model is.

I might do that. I'll have to be careful though, the purists might string me up. I plan on painting it oliver colors since I don't have an original style engine and neither are the wheels I found for it.

First bit or work done to the tractor. Primer on the plow and handles.

They were used to cultivate gardens, mow lawns, things like that. They were a very early version of a garden tractor.
