mine seems to be working well, but I'm working with an older apple and older windows on my computers. I love how all of the compatibility constantly changes yearly..

No but I have been thinking of doing it to a 45 I own. Why do you want to do it to a 9mm? Doing competition?

Funny I get on here and there's a gun question in the bs thread  I've had my butt kicked by an old beater 12gauge Stevens today. Every time you rack the slide and fire, you'd have to mash the slide release to rack another shell. Took it down and just couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong.

I just removed the offensive pieces and it works fine

That's the idea. Not serious competition just with people I know. Only problem is I need to sell my 10mm so I can buy a 9mm. No one will buy it for $850 almost brand new with a couple mods when they're $950 new.

Well if your no going full tilt weekend steel champ and it's just for giggles....in other words you don't need to make power factor. Why not just tailor a load that is controllable under a heavy bullet. Even if you don't have a 9mm gun, purchasing an 350$ Rock island is a viable option (I'll use any excuse to acquire more guns lol) rather than take a beating on that 10mm.

RIA's are pretty good little guns (it's a 1911 with steel parts, what could go wrong) for the money. I've heard that the citadel (armscor/RIA) are really good for entry level 1911's.

As for loads......3.5gns of bullseye under a 124gn bullet makes an easy shooter that'll thump plates hard. I've been looking for a 147gn mold to try out with no luck. I guess I'll have to go to NOE molds and start playing email tag with them to see if I can get one made.

I've shot two Rock Island 1911s and while they both shot every time I pulled the trigger, there is a reason they are so cheap. I really don't like buying cheap things, I'd rather do without until I can afford it or like now, sell something I have so I can buy what I want. Kimber makes a 5.75" theaded barrel 9mm that I really want for a out $900.

My understanding is that 1911s are like AR15s in their parts interchangibility. You can put quality parts in a cheap frame and have a quality shooter. Trucks and guns are a lot alike. Build what suits you.

I feel the same way on buying quality stuff, and do about the same as you.....what I don't do is buy a name. Over half of the 1911 platform pistols have very little difference between them if any at all. When there are differences it's usually in the form of triggers, pot metal frames, second rate grips.....etc. like Caleb said they're like AR's.....your buying names and warm fuzzy feelings.
I personally know two guys how shoot Taurus 1911s in competitions.......would I......jury is out on that one lol. I one a few Taurus pistols but I think I'll pass paying 600$+ for a Taurus 1911......I just don't see it being worth that when I can buy same thing....probably better made, for less money.

I've drooled over my share of Kimbers tho

Oh and the Government is supposed to be selling of their surplus 1911s soon.......can wait to watch that freak show.

I've got some ideas in my head on how to utilize the outbuildings. The biggest is 32x24 with a 8' overhang, and that'll be my main shop. Still working on the others.
I'm moving out of a 32x56 pole barn, that was everything, storage, shop, etc, and its get cluttered fast as a do all, it'll be nice to break some of that up.
Plus, has the bonus of 13 acres, so there's plenty of room to expand if I feel its needed

As for 1911's, I'm lucky to have been able to afford a Kimber in my bachelor days. Its nice, beautiful gun, shoots great, etc. I'd like a commander, or a compact 1911 to carry, but I'm on the fence as which to buy, as I like buying quality, but hate the price tags for a name etched on the slide. Wouldn't mind a 9mm version either
