Dman, I drilled mine till I had about 1/16 of flap overlap. Sorry I have no idea what the size of bit was,I couldn't see the size anyhow.

Thanks. I don't think I have a drill bit big enough, so I was just using a carbide tip on a die grinder. I've opened the back side of the hole a lot more than than the front so far. I'll open the front side a bit more tomorrow. Then finish gasket matching.

I'm still not sure what size to drill the divider. I don't want to go too big, and risk losing some twin scroll effect

They work on pressure more than flow, that's why a hole 1/8 the size of the volume can still control drive pressure. Even a little hole will pretty much ruin the twin scroll effect.

I drilled mine out full size, put it on the drill press and ran it clear through both.

Good point. I think I'll try 1/2" and see how it goes. The spacer I have is undivided, so I'll have to add a divider somehow so if I swap to another charger I won't end up with problems

Got the porting done, and the divider drilled. Just need to finish cleaning up the housing, and hit it with some high temp paint. I'll have to decide if I'm going to make a new back plate. If I can't find my hx35 flange I'll cut one out of 1/8" plate.

I never understood the point of drilling the divider. If it needed to be done I think Holset engineers would have done it. And Bullseye, Borg Warner, Garret, etc.

As pressure is relieved on one side it allows the other side to flow more through the turbo, effectively gating both sides. From the factory. All drilling it does is make the exhaust more turbulent and ruin the dual volute/scavenging effect.

holset did do it with the newer turbos. Borg also gates both volutes. The Garret's I've seen have been non gated.

In my mind while drilling the divider will wreck the twin scroll effect allowing drive pressure to go through the gate from both scrolls provides a more effective wastegate

I didn't know Holset gates both sides.. Must be on the really new ones.

Man I wish my turbo was gated just so I could run a drive pressure gauge on each side of the manifold to see if my theory is correct.

Holset also has the years and $millions to do the research regarding exactly what turbine housing goes with each change you make to an engine. The rest of us have to make sacrifices.

Dmann, of you're talking about the HE series, they are an undivided turbine housing. Every divided housing I've seen doesn't gate both sides.

How much of the fuel tank crossmember do you have to cut to run stacks? First one I done I didn't run it next to the bed. So it missed the crossmember.

Well not all of us are rich folk who can afford fancy turbos.

I'd forgotten the he turbos were undivided Jon. Though to be fair that does give the side effect of gating all 6

When I had a 6" stack, I just notched the horizontal part. IIRC, the 4-5" adapter cleared it just barely.
