early 91 vs 89 truck

Postby shackwrrr » Wed Mar 04, 2015 11:02 am

Looking at trucks and found 2 in my price range. Both are RCLB and are 4wd non intercooled 3 speed trucks.

Truck 1 is the 89, has a few new parts like steering box, alternator, ps pump, MC, good paint job, no obvious rust, rebuilt trans. This truck has power locks, windows, and AC. Has aftermarket 16.5 rims that have to go. Also has aftermarket 4in exhaust.

Truck 2 is the 91, no mention of any sevices or trans rebuilds. Very clean/straight body with looks like original paint. No power options, no a/c vinyl bench. Has WVO/SVO 2 tank conversion and OEM tach.

Both priced exactly the same which would you go for?

I would go with truck #1 myself.

I wouldn't want to get tied up with a WMO setup. If there are injection issues caused by the usage of WMO. It would most likely be expensive.

I'd give both a good going-over, and test drive both.

For me it would be the 89 AC truck. And I like the simple 89 wiring and systems compared to the later trucks.

I agree with Philip on this one. If he has been running veggie oil the inside of that injection pump will be coated with crap and may not last long. You are buying a time bomb with that. Plus AC is a nice thing to have. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Ended up going with the 91. Drove both and the 91 was definitely the better truck. Carolina truck with almost no rust. Completely unmolested stock truck. Mopar reman injection pump. current owner never used veggie and I'm going to remove the system. Pictures when I get back on the PC

I normally do but the forum software here doesn't resize automatically and I didn't want to blow peoples monitors up.

Using the smaller pic's kind of leaves us wondering what shape it is in. There is no detail. Just a vague image.

It stays at 2200 rpm any time the truck is moving... oh wait that's just the 3 speed.

Ripped all the veggie lines out and pulled the tank. So much happier now that stuff is gone. checked it out underneath and oh my its so nice. Engine is absolutely dry, frame is beautifu, body is clean. Even the brake lines all look nice. Super happy with this truck.
