This is cool. My engine knocks at idle (800 rpm). Once it g ets to about 1100 rpm it sounds fine. Runs normal other than that noise.

Is not....I'm certain it isn't. Knocks are hard to find......so far in my experience it's either injector or piston skirt related. I have a 24v torn apart right now that sounded 10x worse at idle than that and it was piston skirt. That was caused by a stopped up "cooling" nozzle. It was full of bearing shavings and wasn't lubing the wrist pin or cylinder wall.

Hopefully this is not the case for you.

Oh....and how the shavings got there. The owner had bearings slid in months before and apparently the clowns doing it scratched up the crank or something.....it was fubar'ed.

Mine sounds terrible, like someone hitting metal on metal, when it's cold. Once it warmed up the noise went away.

Yea, that doesn't sound good.... that's really loud.

Nope. It's knocking so bad I got home and parked it for now. I'm probably going to find a used engine and just swap it in. Maybe a pee pump if I can find one. I got 283 miles and it's just under 1/4 tank so probably 14mpg or so. It used to be 300-310 at 1/4 tank would yield about 16.5 mpg.

Got a set of stock injectors to try in it?

I could put a set together and let you try them.

Hey that's a good idea. About 5 years ago my brother had a 6x16 nozzle split and I remember thinking it sounded like someone pounding on metal with a hammer. I'll pull these when I get a chance and look at the nozzles.

BC has split a couple nozzles too. I think his are 6 x .016s.

Anybody know about the early 318ci magnum MPI injectors? Found a dead one on my never ending plow truck, and its yellow. Noticed while surfing the web you can buy yellow, black, etc, as well as swap other model injectors into it.
I'm not wanting anything fast, or modified at this point, but will it hurt if I find a set in the junk yard that aren't yellow and swap em in? I know of couple mpi.engines, and not sure what color injectors they have, or if it really matters

Lemme do some research. I thought they switched injectors at some point, like 92-94, and 95-97, etc.
At this point, just want it to run. Seems like I plow once, and its down for a week awaiting parts and diagnostics. Figure it'll be running good and reliable by the time spring gets here

I did check and the injectors I have are not going to work. Seems they work for 2000-2003, then the next series is 98-99, then 94-97.... so looks like several modifications to the fuel systems through the years.
