Okay so those of you who have rebuilt NV4500's what do you use to press fifth gear back on the main shaft?

perhaps some of the changes are just a harness connector? that's happened in the neons I mess with. change the connector and itll work. might be work a look.

I believe the connection changed in 2000 or 01, I believe 992-95ish are the same and 96 up to 99 (since they changed connectors) are the same. Not sure how big of a hurry you are but I think I have a set. Also for more power if you take the tb off and open the throats and polish them it will improve power according to my butt dyno. I done it to mine and my dad's Dakota along time ago.

I had a set of 98 injectors I was going to put into my 92 but never got around to it. I'm not sure if I have those or not. I believe they were really low mile ones.

Why would you press it on? I thought it was a slip on and the nut held it. That's why they come loose and fall off, the nut vibrates loose, then the gear slides back and POOF! no 5th gear.

Wonder the same thing. Watched several videos where guys took newer model injectors and swapped them into older model vehicles. Mainly 4.0 jeeps, other Chrysler cars, etc.
Dogefreak, not in a hurry at all. I bought one new injector to swap with my dead one, just to get it going again and see if it wasn't the issue all along. Eventually id like to change them all out, since I'd bet money there original, and on borrowed time. I'm gonna pull them and clean them this weekend, to help get me by

I was just thinking the same thing. Unless this is off a GM truck which might be different???
But from all the pictures and such I've seen, fifth gear is splined (as well as the shaft) and the 'nut' is all that keeps it in place.

Nope has to be pressed on. The aftermarket mainshafts don't.

I've never pressed one on. The nut holds that on......even on stock shafts.

They make a tool for it. Had to pull this one off with a gear puller. Needs to be pressed back on.

Still haven't done it,have never had one tight on the shaft. It's always slid off in the hand with the nut removed.
