Have I missed something?

Postby Richie O » Mon Oct 10, 2016 5:22 pm

Had a guy ask me the other day,,,, " I heard Dodge was not going to use the Cummins anymore " I have not heard anything of the sorts. They still keeping the 6.7 for now? Any hints on using the smaller 5.0 v8?

I don't get updates very often but we are running Ram5500s and we switched from Ford to the Rams and I haven't heard anything about them dropping the cummins. They do have a 6.4 Hemi that the run in them for a gasser. Haven't heard anything about the 5.0. I wouldn't think it would hold up like the inline.

Also if Ram drops Cummins or Cummins drops Ram it will be the end of Ram. I know our company would probably go back to Ford as would a lot of others that have switched from Ford to Ram.

If dodge (ram) loses cummins, they might as well ditch the 3/4 and 1 ton truck line.

Now Richie does it matter. Your just like me. Your not going to run down an buy a new truck worth more than the house you live in.

That rumor gets started about just after every new model year comes out.

Ok, thanks guys. I know I had heard that before and it didn't happen. But with Dodge in bed with Fiat I thought maybe. Philip, your right, my personal rigs are not going to be new. My company trucks on the other hand, yes, the 15 I plow with ( dmax ) did cost more then my house. But so did the 08 we still have which is now worth less then half that with a whopping 20k miles. I'm not going to tell you how much for the new boat engine I just ordererd,,,, but YES!!!!!! Its a QSB 5.9 Was going to just get a 6BTA but they are so loud I just can't do it. My Mitsubishi 6D16 makes my ears want to bleed, will be happy to hear myself think hauling traps. Plus the new engine is made for this crap low sulfur fuel. The Mitsu is creeping up on 15,000 hours untouched. ( sound of knocking wood inserted here ).

Apparently there's some sueing going on between the two for some emissions equipment recall that affects 13-16's where the def system would shut down if the system got moisture in it, and the trucks would have high nox.

All I know is if Ram looses Cummins they will not have a truck line any more. Most people I know that are farmers and that tow with them buy Ram because of the Cummins. They aren't Dodge\Ram loyal they are Cummins loyal.

That's why I buy dodge. I don't like dodge cars at all and I don't like anything that dodge ever made with an automatic. I still don't think they know how to build a good automatic transmission.. My brother in law has had a handful of Dodge 3/4-1 ton trucks.. All with autos. he has towed heavy with all of them. All of them have had extensive transmission issues.

That being said, I don't care for an auto in any truck I buy. would much rather have the standard. but that's just personal preference.

The transmission issues are why I buy gm's. I am a huge fan of the allison. They just work well. They plow very good and I can hold traction by feathering the throttle. My days of plowing with a stick shift are over.

I plow alot during the winter so I have to have new stuff that has a better chance of holding up. I plowed with a 89 I had a few years back,,, Not my blue one ,,,, but it was getting unreliable. I can't be broke down. We had a 97 1 ton diesel we plowed with too and that was also getting to the point there was always something. I hate buying 65k trucks and just using them hard, but its what they do. My 92 is the only " working " dodge here. I haul my 9 ton triaxle equipment trailer with it. Work it hard. That truck is really nice to haul with, nv4500 and 4.11's very nice round town hauler. It works out for that because the trailer was so expensive it see's no winter use, and of course the 92 never see's salt. :D

I had a 95 cab/chassis with 4.11's and an NV4500, best towing trick I have ever had along with a tie for the best MPG driving empty.

I wonder how many decades it's going to be before Ford does actually buy Cummins, and suddenly a million idiots throughout the country get this giant pie-eating grin of vindication and shout "I've known all along Ford owned Cummings!"
