Wow it's been a long time since I've been on here, and I have a couple pieces of news. Biggest thing is I finished my apprenticeship finally, and am now a ticketed journeyman heavy duty mechanic. Second, over the weekend I took a couple of firearm courses, and can get my restricted firearms licence, which is something I've wanted to do for quite a long time. Third, I have a core 47re lined up for The Roo Hunter, so I'll just have to save some money for more parts, and build it (I'd like to take the downtime to sell my current compounds, and manual trans setup too, but I've been slacking on posting in the classifieds on cf, and here).

So I had a pretty fun weekend. Since may I've been commuting nearly 100km a day for work, and with The Roo Hunter , and jaeger both getting around 16mpg it hasn't exactly been cheap on fuel, so after working on a 99 vw tdi I decided to actually start looking for something that got good mileage. A couple days of perusing kijiji I messaged a seller with something that checked the boxes I wanted (98-05, manual trans, tdi, preferably in black) they messaged me on Saturday, and after a bit of texting I secured used of a car hauler, and took off with my brother in my 4th gen, drove six hours, and picked up a pretty decent shape 330,000km 02 alh tdi that even came with a set of winter tires mounted on stock wheels. Plan is to do an egr delete, and a few other fun things when my account recovers a bit, then essentially have it as a beater with a heater/ thing to drive when everything else is broken.

Hey fellers! Been crazy busy with work this summer. I started a new job last year and now that Im qualified for all 4 jobs I've been getting OT thrown at me left and right. Pretty sure Im gonna sell my 93 for a down payment on a different house since I now have my dad's 04 3500, and likely end up 12v swapping my 86 w100 swb because I hate carburetors.

Dman, better do the timing belt if it hasn't been done recently, they age with time as well as mileage.

That was one thing I asked, and I'll inspect it when I service it sometime this week, but it was done last at 250,900km, so hopefully it's good for a while at least.

I had an 00 tdi/manual in black. I stuck a small lift and some all terrain tires on there. Unstoppable (for a car) About as basic of a car as I could find. Cruise, a/c, and power locks were about it for options, not even power windows.

I didn't have a job I needed a commuter for so I sold it to a buddy's wife. Well now I do have a job that I commute to so I needed another car. Picked up this 2010 Lancer (base model) for $1500 with a bum trans. $600 for a trans/fluids/misc. stuff and it is up and running again. The jetta averaged around 45 mpg, this seems to be around 30-32 so far. My Excursion is around 16-18.

Lucky. Our roads are clear, but there's still about a foot of snow on the ground.

That's a nice little lancer gots_a_sol. I did plugs on a friends lancer, and those little L4's are pretty decent to work on.; My Jetta is in black as well, but it has power windows, and heated cloth seats. Your excursion gets about the same as my 93, and 12. I maxed out at about 17.3mpg driving gently with the 4th gen, and didn't hand calc any mileage after I bumped the timing on my 93).

Eventually I'd like to do a smythcar ute conversion on it since it's super rare for me to have more than two people in it, and having a bed would be more useful than a trunk, and rear seats.

That’s always fun.

I realized the cat on my car was removed by a previous owner, so it’s going to be really easy to straight pipe this thing. I also have a pair of 3” mbrp Chrome tips I’ve had for several years that I really want to use on it (I’m going to do my best to scab together a full 3” system eventually)

One of my buds has a 5 speed alh Jetta wagon that he put a flapper stack on at one point.

I dunno if it's that particular version of tdi but that car was extremely quiet out the exhaust straight piped
