Ummmm, maybe use the right fuse and clean the window off?

If that's all it took to cook the motor, it's been on it's last legs for a while. I've done the same thing with my '97 and never had a problem.

Shouldn't the fuse pop easier if it is smaller than factory? And apparently my alternator was on it's last legs as well as it died this morning. I replaced it 125 000 kms ago shortly after buying the truck, but I guess it doesn't like the oil currently being puked on it by the front crank seal. It still turns, but it's a smoke machine, and doesn't charge anymore. Maybe a can of brake cleen will bring it back to life.

So as soon as I replace the wiper motor and the alternator, the 96 will be like new again. Oh, and the engine, clutch, u-joints, steady bearing, limited slip re-build, pinion seal, front & rear brakes, headlight housings, windshield, tierods, track bar, lower balljoints, pitman arm, shocks, front springs, and the stereo. On a good note, going back to the oil patch next month, so I'll hopefully make enough money to start collecting parts. Definitely not before buying a new truck, or the old lady won't be too happy. Likely a 6.7/G56/2500, 2014+, as they have the new radius arm front suspension which looks beefier than the older 4 link setup. I also like the idea of a 4 link rear, should ride nice and not have wheel hop issues like a leaf sprung rear.

Man, I missed it! Got over 11k posts now!

Remps, yeah, a smaller fuse should blow easier, that's why I said it was on it's way out.
I had to replace my alternator last week too! I noticed sitting at a light it would drop down to 12 volts or below with the lights on, then last weekend it was real bad and wouldn't come up until the rpms were up above 1500 or so with no lights..

I disconnected the wiring from the alternator yesterday, that solved the smoky hot issue, spins cold now. I ran it for 5-6 hrs yesterday with the heat at 3/4 and the stereo on, still had 12.3 volts after I shut it off and hooked up the charger. Still started fine. 1.5-2 hrs @ 12 amps had the batts charged again. So I guess I'll run it like this till the road opens in a few weeks and I can go buy an alternator and a wiper motor.

Need some opinions boys! I need a new pyro and trans temp gauges for my '97, the GlowShit gauges lived up to their name. :? Does anybody have digital gauges? I can get a pyro and temp gauge both for about the same price as an Autometer pyro regular gauge.

Any input is welcome!

I prefer watching a needle sweep the face of a gauge than a digital readout. I think digital would be hard to read for a quick moving boost gauge, probably fine for trans temp and pyro. I didn't even notice my 1000th post lol.

They're on e-bay, autometer sport comp pyro and Intellitech trans temp. I'm not sure how fast they may be, that was my main concern, plus longevity. Cost is a big factor now. I need to get working gauges back in it, but I don't have a lot of money available, so they sounded reasonable compared to a $190 pyro and a $80-90 temp gauge.
Plus, who doesn't like LED digital? ;)

If I'm not mistaken, he's also the lead tech, at least with the data-logger stuff. He's quite helpful.

Has Don Wendlick retired? He is always the tech I spoke to. I used to order my gauges right from him.
