I think I'm going to be there. I wasn't going to come because I have a lot of stuff to do, but I think I'm going to come, unless something comes up.

Well my wife and I are now the proud owners of a small 14 acre mini farm. It was part of a 74 acre farm that went up for auction. Was able to pick up the lease for the tillable land on the other parcels that I wasn't able to buy at the auction so I now have roughly 30 acres I can play around with. Gonna get some beef cows and some other stuff as well. Nice thing is that its only 5 miles from Dad's and Grandpa's farms so I can borrow some equipment until I get some of my own. Other than plant some beans this week we probably aren't going to do a whole lot on the farm end of it though this year. The house needs a fair amount of updating so that is going to be the priority for a while.

on that note... I'm going to have a bit more driveway to take care of. Anybody know of a snow plow that anyone still makes for these trucks? If not I could probably fab up my own push frame.

If you watch craigslist I'm sure you will see one, or post a wanted ad on there. Plows are out there, you just have to keep your eyes open.

Congrats! I bought 27 acres of trees a few years ago and have been working on putting up a house on the property. When I have the time I don't have the money and when I have money... Shoulda just borrowed more money and paid a crew to do it I could be living there now!

It took me 13 months to build my first house, from drawing up the blue prints to laying blocks, building, plumbing, wiring, finishing,
I saved a crap ton of money but I got old in that 13 months working 2nd shift and building all day, only labor I paid for was my cousin to dig my foundation and my septic hole.

I had 35k in the compleated 1,700 sq ft 3 bedroom 2 bath with the master in a loft with a bathroom, all open living room 32ft cathedral ceiling, the entire house was sheeted in western cedar 1x12 inside walls, shiplap ceiling/and 4 dormers and cedar siding out 12-12 pitch roof, all knotty pine floor, claw foot tub/shower breakfast nook and wrap around porch.

sadly 10 years later my uncle sold the land next to it and a truss business opened up 100 yards away, I am a quiet freek so I had to go before I did something stupid, so I sold it to my step sister for $ 115k, I felt like I did OK and moved back to the middle of the farm 1/4 mile away, put up a made to order double wide, put log sidding on it and a big open log beam log porch and a 30x40 barn never looked back, I have a good chuckle at tax time every year as I just did sneek in before the law changed about taxing double wides as houses, my taxes went from $3,200 a year for the house and a 2 car garage, to 600 a year for my house and the barn.

best thing I ever done was building my own house, 2nd best thing was selling it, my wife was sad because it was our dream house that we thought up out of our own heads and both our kids were born in it, but it was a high maintenance piece of property and house and now I can mow the yard in an hour and a half and then sit on the porch and sip sweet tea while watching the deer lick the salt block and drink out of the pond.

moral of the story, build all you can yourself for 2 reasons, the satisfaction of it and the fact labor is very high.

PS It would cost 3x what I had in my house to build it again with the cost of cedar alone.

Building and improvements become almost affordable if you do it yourself. I've done north of $115,000 of improvements and building to our place for about $35,000. Of course, it doesn't hurt my day job is construction, so I have all the tools already and I can do the labor as efficient as most any crew.

Since my brother, and I bought our house we've been slowly fixing up the problem areas. Shopping clearance, and end of roll, utilizing stuff that's already here, and doing everything ourselves sure has kept cost down, and the place looks a ton better. We still need a lot more lighting in the garage, but we'll get there eventually.

Well the trans cratered in The Roo Hunter yesterday. Got most of the way to work, and lost everything but 4th gear, so limped it into work, and got my mom to bring me my 4th gen. Hopefully a lift is open tonight, and I can at least get it pulled out of the truck tonight. I sure hope it's just bearings like last time, so she's not down for too long.

So since I've pretty much burnt myself out on the diesel performance thing right now I've been messing with gas stuff. Hopefully taking a little break from messing with my truck will light the fire under my ass to finish the Excursion and my Duster.

You tired of it too? Figured I was the only one.

I've pretty much just quit fooling with anything automotive......burnt out by screwing with everyone else schit. Guns and reloading has been burning up my spare (and rare) time. Most notably 12guage shell reloading. 7/8oz 1oz and 1 1/8oz slugs,000/00 buckshot and birdshot. All cast by me and then loaded.

You wouldn't believe what a 1 1/8oz slug will do to car doors, hoods, and 4x4 post.
I'm working on accuracy with them in a smooth bore shotgun for now. At 50yrds I can keep them on a styrofoam plate......so far.
Looking into either a 590a1 mossberg or a 1300 Winchester with a rifled slug barrel.

What slug mold are you using? For the money the 7/8oz Lee slug mold seems to be the best way to make cheap bird shells into big holes in a target.
