Best 3pt Finish Mower

Postby matthewh » Wed Oct 25, 2017 5:12 pm

Looking for advice on a good used 3pt finish mower for a Kubota L4400. What seems to be the best brand? Havent had much luck locally threw the stealerships. Found a Landpride FDR1572 on craigslist, but seems small hp wise for the tractor, according to there website.

Specs we're looking for is 72-84", category 1, and preferably 4 wheels, but 2 could work.

Any suggestions or advice?

We have an older Woods RM306 that is 72" two wheels on the rear and it will scalp pretty badly if you let it go all the way down to the skids. I have the 3pt set to not let it go down to the skids and it works good on flat smooth ground. They do make a front roller for it that I'm thinking about getting that I've read works pretty good.

My in-laws have a Woods, don't know the model but it runs off of a Kubota with a 18hp diesel. Like Dodgefreak, it scalps hard. I put adjustable skids on the front, set the 3pt to not go below a certain height. My problem is the tractor does NOT have a float option when you set a certain height so certain terrains still get scalped or left higher. I am trying to design something to allow it to float but float at a certain height.

I believe the scalping is the reason were looking for one with the 4 wheels. Currently mow with a Farmall Cub and a belly Woods mower, just wanting to downsize to one tractor
Woods seems to be a popular brand, just never seems to see them for sale, im sure for good reasons.
Ill have to just keep looking. Figured we have some time, since snow should be here shortly, now gonna mow anytime soon anyways

If you're going to run one on just one tractor the 4 wheels would be alright, I want to get the mid roller on the woods because from what I've seen on the 4 wheel ones you have to either have a narrow rear tractor or one wide enough to clear the wheels. or the 3pt has to be long enough to clear the wheels. We are running ours on a Case 400 and the 3pt arms would put the wheels into the rear tractor wheels unless we widen them. but if I want to run it on my Case 430 without the adjustable axle then it would hit. Our tractors don't have float either but the top link should have a pivot on it or a chain to help with that. I have skids on ours too but they will dig into the ground if you turn and don't raise it.

I run a woods 90" four wheel finish mower. It's built with swing blades like a brush hog. I run it behind my ford 1920 tractor which they say it's under powered for it. I've never had a problem even in tall wet grass. It's an animal compaired to the cheaper mowers. It does catch ground in the center once and awhile if I'm not careful. My biggest complaint with it is, it's very heavy and can leave mini rut marks when the ground is soft.
