Happy New Years folks. I’ve been lazy about coming on here since I got on as a mod on cf, and I quit going on my Facebook last March when I realized there was nothing I wanted to look at on there.; The Roo Hunter is still sitting with no transmission, and I don’t think I’d be able to get it out of where it’s parked til the snow melts anyway; I drove my car three days last week where the temps hovered around -40, and my mileage dropped 7mpg going from 38.2 to 31.2. It also ran like garbage as it cycles the egr constantly to keep coolant temp.

I must have inspired a few people, the most new posts we've had in a month!

Spencer, me too on Saturday.

Remps, are you sure both heaters are working? Even with the new alternator mine draws it down below 12 volts.

Hi Tom!

Ducati, I wondered why I haven't seen you on FB in a while. lol

Anyone stock up on cj4 before it ran out or is everyone running the current ck4 options? Has anyone run a 10w30 HDEO in the summer months/under load?

It was a cj4, and several years ago, but we ran Schafer’s 10-30 in the service trucks, and they did just fine running 12-15,000lb all the time.

Only on the 1st cycle before starting, (12.2 with warm fully charged batts, 11.8 just now) and the 1st cycle after starting. (Pulled down to 12.3ish) All cycles after that only pull down to 13.5. I've noticed with my truck when it is cold and heater is cycling, If I idle at 1300 rpm or higher I can make the intake heater stay on for a couple mins straight before it will start cycling again. It'll hold 14.2 volts with intake heater on at 1400 rpm, up to 14.9-15 when it kicks out and cycles a few more times.

I watched mine closer this morning, it probably drops to 12 or so the 1st few times after starting. I can't see it before, it's dark out and I don't usually turn on lights until it has been running a few minutes.

I run whatever we have at work. This time I'm running full synthetic 0w-40 we had left over from a job. Glad I did, it's been stupid cold here lately, and the high for Friday and Saturday is forecast as being around 0.

Pete why do you wait before turning lights on?

I'd like to run a 10w30 for fuel econ, as Im 98% unloaded. Only thing is I'm waiting on BITOG to see which of the ck4 oils are stoutest. Valvolines HDEO is cj4

Lol sure you will.......just like I have lol. Only thing I've done is install a China turbo on the Chevy (still working great) and beat on it. Hell.....I can stop working long enough to do anything to it.....plus I have had my eyes on firearms lately.

Been working the lever on a Henry Big Boy in 45colt since Christmas,me like! Lol

If I plan to drive it anymore I'll have to. It needs injectors bad and the 9inch needs some attention. It's developed a lot of backlash. I may end up sticking a Dana 60 under it. I keep talking myself out of pulling the Cummins and putting a big block in it.

Got my pump and injectors pulled out tonight. I'm going to send them to THD for a rebuild and have him max out the pump and to reset and clean the injectors. He had a super good sale Black Friday. I got a rebuilt, maxed out pump for $570 shipped.

Hey guys, I hope this year finds all of you fat and sassy, I hope to do some paint work on the truck and pull the front end off to do a KDP check  and a reseal, we have also been in the zero's here at night but even with no grids if I plug it in she fires right up and runs like it's summer.

It did turn over 167k a couple weeks ago.........just about wore out..

I have been using her to pull logs out of the woods but I am very careful, even though I did break a chain. it shot up in front of the truck without touching it, at that point I took it to the house and got out a tractor.

We did buy my wife a 2014 Ram longhorn for her driver and to take over towing duty for the camper, it feels pretty anemic when compared to the old Cummins for pulling power/torque even though it is 400hp, and I droped MPG from around 12 with the cummins to 7-8 with the Hemi.

It is like riding around in the Taj Mahal, I just dread the day things start going wrong with it.

I did a blower motor on a 2014 escape yesterday, and man is that an awful job. It’s situated in the center of the dash, has a number of very inaccessible fasteners (torx for two of them, and boy are those not convenient to put back in), and actually takes two guys on either side of the pile to do the taking out part. Step one in the instructions is remove the pedals (I got away with not doing that due to my size), and book time going out the way I did was 2.3 hours. You can choose to take the upper dash apart, and then it takes over 6 hours.

Just habit to not load the alternator until the grids kick out. I also usually turn the lights off as I'm backing in the driveway too.

Gentlemen let us not take our dumb mechanical engines for granted. Our 6.7 P stroke rollback is now a $40k+ paperweight due to 7 cracked valves (fixed after $7k to have heads replaced), and today it puked 4/5 of its crankcase oil within 10 miles. Not to mention a sudden massive fuel dilution event.

Pete, why didn't that cross my brain, I may begin to practice this headlight-free starting you speak of.
