It's also possible that the port is plugged someplace. I would pull the screw out and squirt some carb cleaner thru it and see if the fluid comes out. Usually you can see it coming out the front of the carb or into the venture.

I rebuilt the carb last year and tuned both H and L accordingly. Anyone know why no change from the H screw at all?

Steps I'd take
1 remove carb
2 pitch it in the trash can
3 replace with 20$ eBay Chinese carb
4 live happy till next issue
5 rinse and repeat as necessary

This is what Stihl is telling people except to buy one from an authorized dealer.

I usually don't have any trouble out of any of my Stihl saws, but my 28 yr old Craftsman weedeater has been giving me carb trouble for years, I did what Ellis said and bought a carb off e-bay, wish I would have done it 10 years ago, I could have saved days of combined time.

Well I had an interesting day yesterday. I pulled a p pump off a 5.9 that’d been overheated, pulled another p pump off a running 5.9 in a mulcher, and put the first pump into the mulcher. I was a little scared the timing wouldn’t work out because the timing gears threaded holes weren’t even close to where they were on the other engine, but it all worked out fine. It was actually one of the nicest days of work I’ve had in quite a while. The eightysomething dollars an hour was a plus too.

Okay so I'm working on the Excursion again. I won't be able to run the heat exchanger in the factory location. With the Ford it ran the transmission into a small cooler then the radiator. I'm thinking of running it like this and then throwing on my big cooler with the fan. Do you guys think the radiator will pull as much heat as the heat exchanger?

Yep......seems to work well and no fiddling with tiny ass screws or orifices that won't open......I know everyone hates that lol

Alright, so I need a new steering box. I've been looking at both Redhead Steering Gear and Blue Top boxes, anyone have experience with them? I've read that the guy who runs or owns Blue Top used to work for Redhead and they are essentially the same other than price. I'm also more than likely going to do a Borgeson steering shaft while I'm in there, it seems like the best time to do it.

Luckily it has warmed up here, it was in the mid 50's today and it felt fantastic. Hopefully that is the last of the cold weather.

I actually get tickled tuning carbs. I swear I got some adjustment out of the H after I rebuilt the carb, so hopefully it is some junk I can clean out.

While I do only run eth free fuel, the saw has sat probably 10 months since I last put her in the wind

I go out of my way to have screws to turn, I took the oem carb of my stihl pole saw that only had a L screw and stuck one on it with more screws :bom:

Pretty sure it goes to the radiator then to the small cooler, at least it does on an F550. I think it will be fine with the fan cooler added on. Remind me, what trans are you using again?

Don't know about you......But my time is worth a hell of a lot more than dicking around with a 20$ carb is worth to me.

47rh is what's in it. It goes through the radiator and a cooler in front. I'll probably upgrade that cooler too.
