I'd try running power direct from battery to wiper motor to see if it works that way before swapping it.
Got a heater core ordered for the 90, so hopefully get that changed next weekend. Gonna be cheap and just fill the rad with vinegar or clr for a couple days and flush it out, and hope it doesn't develop any leaks.
Filled the 4 runner with premium Shell fuel, no ethanol, and bumped up the timing some by ear. Still gutless, but it's definitely more responsive than it was. Nicer to drive now, requires less throttle to get up to speed. Hopefully mileage improves a little as well.

Ugh, trans shelled out in the '97. There goes $1200 I didn't really have for a rebuild.

You going to rebuild or swap Pete? My getrag will be taking a dump sooner than later, it randomly starts making a chunking/ gravel rolling noise when coming down in speed in neutral w/ clutch engaged.

It also gets REALLY hard to shift in any gear but direct when it acts up. Any opinions on the reman 360s that can be had for $1200ish?

Buying a rebuilt unit. I checked pressures and they should have been about 60 and were 20, so I pulled the pan. Not a lot of metal but the filter looked squashed and there was black or gray looking stuff all over it. I called the local guru and he said he had a 47RE sitting on the floor all rebuilt a guy didn't pick up for 1200 or he could do mine for 1800. No brainer right there. He said it sounded like the lock-up clutch came apart and plugged the filter, which is what it looked like. If it was june I'd throw in a filter and oil and try it, this late in the year, no way. The green machine gets put away in a month. I'm mad that I can't go to the meet in Missouri though, this pig just burned all my trip money and then some. :(

Bill rebuilds them, but he's a ways away from you. I don't know about any of the remans, if they are good bad or what.

Had to rob a battery connector from the 90 for the 4runner last week, got it replaced yesterday. Battery was half dead though, after boosting it and getting it running a while, I shut it off, and the gloshift light was still on. Tryed unhooking/re-hooking battery and gauge power, still stayed on. So I banged on the ignition switch 15-20 times with a ratchet, sprayed a bunch of wd-40 in it, turned it on/off a bunch of times, sprayed more/banged more, hooked battery back up, and voila, the light goes off with the key again.

I wanted to make the trip to Missouri in my car this year Pete, but I don’t have a passport at the moment, so I’m stuck here. I changed my thermostat on the 21st, and was still getting pretty crappy mileage (did 39.8mpg the last tank), and that must’ve been around the time one of my tires acquired a nail. It was down to 14psi when I checked it Friday after work, so stayed late to fix it, reset all the rest of the tires, and it seems like mileage has come back. I also no longer have any egr components left on the car, and my intake manifold is a little cleaner, which seems to have pepped the bottom end up a touch.

That would have been a nice trip in the car, and the mileage would be tons better than your big truck! lol Those manifolds are a common problem on those cars, damn EGR or PCV systems anyways! :x

Yeah, it would’ve been. I’ll try to make it out to Iowa next year; I think it’s a combination of egr, and the pcv plugging the intake up so bad. The carbon sticks to the oil, and turns to damn near concrete. I solved the pcv issue with a custom catch can that cost me $7 to make, and used some old Cummins parts to boot. I looked in the outlet hose when I did my t-stat, and it’s still dry in there.

That's good! 8)

On another note, only 1 bolt of 12 so far has come out of the white truck without beating, swearing, and generally being a rusty miserable POS. :grrr:

I know that feeling. The shop I work at has been cvip’ing plow trucks the last few years, and they’re borderline nightmares of rusted bolts, and salt/sand mixtures raining on you since they don’t wash them properly.

I have some Rust Check that a customer gave me, if it sits over night the bolts come out pretty good. I finally got it out and it's sitting on the floor, all clean and ready to go get fixed or replaced.

The YouTube channel “project farm” tests some cool as crap stuff including a penetrating fluid showdown. He’s a cool brah and unbiased.

Clogged my first fuel filter on WMO today. Most people say they clog a bunch of filters when they first start running WMO, the detergents in oil clear out the algae that is in the tank. I’ve run somewhere around 100 gallons of WMO so far, so maybe I don’t have much algae growth in the tank?

My big question is: why did my fuel pressure gauge read fine whilst the truck starved for fuel? I almost didn’t make it to the house.

Was it colder than usual? Pressure won't correspond to volume being pumped as viscosity goes up.
