Got it all buttoned up, temp gauge barely moved off 1st notch and it was blowing hot air. Even on low it'll hold a piece of paper on the intake vent. Unfortunately the alternator isn't working again so only drove it around the block. I may have to look into something internally regulated

Bought a new regulator for it, charging good again. Now for a push button start.

1/2 way there! Starting without climbing under the hood in the winter is a big plus! lol

Push button starter is installed. The ignition was pretty stiff to turn anyway with the outer chrome missing off the ignition and having to turn the little metal key. Shoulda installed one a long time ago before frying the fusible link solenoid ground wire. The heater works friggin awesome now, I coulda saved myself a lot of cold winter trips if I'd set up 1st gen airboxes like this. Full time recirculate, and defrost and floor heat at the same time.

Parked the dodge again, and pulled the battery out of it. Got the stripped driveshaft bolt changed on the Yota, and got the drivers side tie rod broke loose and adjusted some. Now that both tierods are broke loose shouldn't take long for a shop to do a wheel alignment.

Few days ago the yoter started having temp fluxes and I found the rad was about a half gallon low. I’m bad for always jumping to worst case, HG/ cracked aluminum head etc.

Well I topped the rad off today several times while driving around town and it didn’t try to overheat so far. My biggest issue is about a pint of coolant leaves the system every 10 miles, and best I can tell it’s not hitting the ground....

However, there’s no apparent compression in the rad, the exhaust doesn’t smell sweet, it doesn’t smoke, and it runs smooth and pulls hard with no overheating.

I do know when I changed the coolant early this year the old coolant looked like it had stop leak in it......so because this is a $1k beater/ DD, albeit special to me, what are opinions on stop leak products? Apparently it worked good enough for us not to notice a thing for 4 years until I changed the coolant.

I picked up Bar’s 1186 aluminum stop leak, but I wanted to see what ya’ll think before I put any in. If I do it’ll start as 1/4 recommended dose.

Sounds like a pretty good leak, I'd use the whole bottle for it to have the best chance of stopping the leak.

I’m not Opposed to using buku amounts of the stuff. If I could “know” it wouldn’t cause clogging/ stat sticking problems etc.. That’s probably the only thing keeping me from a healthy stop leak dose.

My experience with stop leak was bad. Now I'll only use it if my life was at risk. Ya know, out in the middle of no where and you'll die if you don't.

Got a new job lined up already. Nice getting kicked out of one to walk into another.

It plugged up more than the leak. Replaced the radiator, thermostat, and heater core. It never would stop overheating and finally dumped the coolant into the crank case via the intake manifold. After tearing down the engine, I found that stuff had plugged other small cooling passages in the heads and block.

I had it plug a heater core once. My Grandfather always put pepper or raw eggs in his. They both worked. He also ran 20w 50 year round, threw hot water on his windshield to thaw the frost, ect All of which I would not recommend, but it all worked for him. I still have the engine from his truck, 1978 350 with 250k on it. I think I would run with the cap loose and see if that slows it down. I have had several radiators over the years that would leak pretty bad under pressure, yet I could live with it with the cap loose as it pushed less out.

That makes sense Richie. Only problem is you can have the cap off with it running and in 20 minutes its lost several ounces. I know the HG is sick at least towards the outside of the block. I think the only reason coolant never hits the ground is because the manny burns it off
