soybean biodiesel production

Postby Fnschlaud4620 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 10:33 pm

So I have a few cousins who run around collecting used cooking oil and make their own fuel, they claim that they have about a dollar a gallon ito it including the labor. Not really sure.

I also know that soybean prices are high, but I was thinking about pressing beans into oil and making some. I have done alittle research on the legality of things, but I just was wondering about who one could sell biodiesel to legally? Can you sell to gas stations?

Does anyone have any insight on how an operation would work, or know of anyone that is doing something simmular?

I am just curious.

Thanks

way more oil per pound with algae. don't believe you can sell it to anybody without a license. and paying road tax, etc. round here it's subsidized supposedly. hard to find 100% though. one chain sells b5. that's about it though.

awhile back i was doing some research on it and was aualy going to purchase a mashine were you dump the used oil in and over night it would make 100gal of bio diesel, and that was going to cot me 1.10 a gal, witch would off been great because it goes directly in to all of our trucks and we go through a ton of diesel, the only problem is thes only so much time in a day and thes onl somany resterants around us that would be willing to do it, you cant just go to MC and get there oil.
Yes i it was your fuel time job it would work well
yes you would need many licens and perments and inspections

For the amount of diesel fuel you get from soybeans it would cost you around $7-8 per gallon to make diesel fuel. You have to have a market for the beanmeal after you have processed the oil out of it, even then it is not profitable, only after you get your $1/gallon check from the government can you actually save over just buying diesel at the station.

rather than make biodiesel , which can be a pita ( especially with hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils ) , i've found it's a heck of alot easier to run wvo , filtered to 5 microns .
this works really well with hydrogenated oils ;
i used a 20 gallon barrel with 2 fittings on the bottom welded into it , one for the hot water tank element to heat up the oil so it flows , and the other for the ball valve and 5 micron filter .
on the top is a air fitting to pressurise it to around 30 - 40 psi to help push the oil through the filter faster . ( remember this is hot oil your playing with ) .

then from there i fill the heated fuel tank while it's still warm and liquidy .

alot of work ... yes and possibly too much work for the actual amount of fuel used in my wv ..... but in a dodge used everyday , this could save a person a ton of money .
