couple storms in the atlantic looking to bear down this way again. we've been kinda lucky last couple years after that big butt-whoopin. got it down to a science now. one truck with dogs, guns and wife. other with valuables, more guns and me. gotta pay for the great fishing and all year racing with a storm ever now and again.

see ya'll on the road

What part of Lousiana are you from? I was down in the delta area(Buras) for a few days in June. Weird to see stuff still torn up from katrina, three years later. I hope you make it through OK.

i'm in covington. it's a bedroom community of new orleans to the north across lake ponchatrain. not much water threat, just wind (mainly tornados). my youngest brothers roof came off with him standing in the yard smoking. watched it go up and over from front to rear. he won't be riding out storms anymore  .

watchya doin in buras? i've got in-laws down that way (well had before katrina- they're closer now). can't beat the fishing down there. i've fished out of port sulphur for years. that area wasn't exactly the richest part of town before the storm so not much money has headed that way. still torn up pretty bad.

Hope you make it thru ok, it sucks when your house gets torn up.

nope, sorry about that. we kinda had faye here this past weekend. it wasn't anything but rain but it still dampens your plans (like the pun?). doesn't look to good for this weekend either.

i've got the friday for sop of and i'm planning to make the trip if all the damn storms dont shoot fuel to $10/gallon. we will both go home with the correct color seats.. God willing.

I was helping out a church with some left over Katrina projects. I was surprised that there is still a bunch to do down there.

You're right about the money not getting down there, but there the oil and fishing industry is still going strong. I did get some time to fish though, that was awesome. Redfish is pretty tasty too.

Take care, and I hope the weather doesn't get too nasty.

Daryl

I have lots of good friends down in your area. I pray for them everytime a storm takes aim at them. They were packing things up and moving items up high at there business today.

It really sucks that good folks work so hard to recover from other storm related damage only to have another come in and threatan all there gains again.

Its hard to think what I would do in your shoes. I hope all works out okay for you all down there. Every person I have ever met in your area truly feels like family.

The roots of the comunity go very deep and you dont see that much in big cities like Seattle or Los Angles.

Keep us up to date on how things are going over the next week.

I have plans to goto the workboat show again in New Orleans I hope all is okay so I can come down again soon.

i appreciate the well wishes guys. i'll keep you posted.

most folks down here are used to this stuff. it was just brought to national attention with katrina and rita. alot of negative coverage of those two. its not really that bad when these things come through. the only REALLY rough part is the drive home wondering if you have a home to go to. that plays with the mind a little bit :( .

now it looks like west la and texas may end up with it. seems to me the young guys at the national hurricane service rely totally on the computer models and gustav has the computers baffled. may not have to leave after all :D . we'll just wait and see

thanks again guys

we're back. actually we didn't leave. after watching the intensity and trajectory, we rode it out in my brothers metal building. not too bad and he stayed for katrina and said this one was nothing (he's kinda a dumbass when it comes to these things- refuses to leave. me, i run like hell whenever needed  ).

still no power at the house. livin on generator and spagehti-o's. works up and running so i'm back here today. gotta love living down here
