Had to break down and put a plow on

Postby Richie O » Mon Dec 01, 2008 2:14 pm

Well, I had to put the plow on one of the trucks today, at 6 am in the rain/snow.

Snow? You call that snow? Hell, we got more than that before it changed to rain, nobody even slowed down!

What's with all the off brand trucks? I thought you were a Dodge man thru and thru?
Man, some peoples kids.

A far as working trucks the chevy's are hard to beat. One has the dmax and that thing will push some snow. I don't like one ton fords or dodges. I worked for a public works as a mechanic and those chevys will take lots of abuse.

Yeah big deal. No power = can't spin the tires = better traction. They can't break it if it has no azz! ;)

The gas one is kinda numb. It plows good but no power. 6.0 liter. The dmax has like 635 foot pounds of torque. The allison also is a great tranny. Its funny, the next town over from where I worked ran all ford one tons and they had trannys let go every year. The town I live in also plows with fords and he lost 3 trannys in one year. ( 3 different trucks ). He also broke a front axle housing in 2, busted a front axle shaft in another truck. So far this year 2 of his fords were in the shop due to electical gremlins in the engine. Running wings on 1 tons tares them up for sure.

Yeah, wings are rough on them. Really should be on a bigger truck. Way back the woman who lived across the street from me worked for a landscaper. He had a 1 ton with a dump, plow and wing. I can't remember if it had a sander in it. They were plowing the local mall 1 nite, she was wingman. She told him to go out, or left, and he was dreaming or something. They hit a large island with the wing, and ended up on top of it.
Didn't hurt the truck or anything. She was pissed at getting bounced around.
I laughed my azz off about it.

I have hit so hard before it made my spine tingle. I drove a fully loaded 7 yard dump truck up on to a 10 foot wide snow pusher bucket. The front wheels were 6 feet in the air. I was plowing in a town parking lot and the plow caught in a crack. The chain that picks up the plow broke and I pivitted on the pins. When I got the truck stopped the plow was face down under the push plates and the front was in the air. Luckily the forman was watching so he knew atleast I was going slow when it fetched up. I hit so hard backing it down the dash board broke.

Gotta love random siht! I was plowing with the 85 ferd 1 ton dually 2wd, sander on the back. (plow was mostly for weight to keep the front down and scrape a little) No brakes, as usual. I was on the parking deck, and heading for the wall, so I hit the brakes. Front locked up, rear kept driving, and up the snowbank I went! When I stopped, the plow was sitting on the 4 ft wall. If I was going faster, it woulda got real exciting,as I don't bail. I seem to think I can stop whatever it is before It goes outta control.

im sorry but i dont agree with the chevys being good trucks, we had a 1997 6.5L that we put 4 trannys in, a 1998 that we put 3 in and a 1999 that ee put 3 in also.

the new fords are dosen't trucks, we have 3 now and they seem to hold up well, but we only have 20000 miles on them, so a little early to tell.

and for work truck chevys and im sorry to say dodges just wont cut it.

oh and 2 hours north of us already has 5 feet of snow, we had a foot but it got rained away, lol

Its always been whatever works best for you. If a truck gives you good service stick with it. I did not mind the older 99 to 01 fords with the 7.3's but the rest, yuk. I really like the 6 speed allison. 1st and reverse is low. It seems not to have to work hard in tight spots. By the way Pete, breaks are for wimps 8).
