Early Dodge diesel 78-80

Postby crossy » Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:44 am

I guess this is the right forum for GENERAL discussion???
if not move it?
Even though the crash book papaerwork i bought for the first gen was USELESS in the diesel radiator mounting dept. i kept finding it peculiar that they listed a differnt rad support for the 78-80 'DIESELS' . WTH- they made a cummins powered truck back then. I was right, it wasn't Cummins powered, but Mitsubishi powered. with some internet poking I wound up finding one on ebay about two weeks ago. the guy said the top speed was 65 MPH. Not quite what WE have in mind with ours huh.LOL. he also said production figures were as low as 2500 total? coool though. it's just one of those things.
I redid 73-87 Chevy trucks for MANY years as a hobby and yet I STILL found out something new about differences all the time. crossy

Neighbor had a 4X4 Mitsubishi diesel 78 dodge. It was absolutely the most powerless POS I ever drove. I have no idea how they ever sold 1 of them.

I know a guy who ran one for close to 20 years until it completely rusted apart. He liked the mileage and never sank a dime into it other than oil changes, etc.
I ran a Rabbit diesel pickup for quite a few years...gutless also but sort of fun to drive, great in the snow(barely enough power to spin the tires) and 45+ mpg saved lots of $$

Your rabbit was not set right them. When mine had a good, new clutch, it would spin the tires in first, chirp them in second, and in 3rd!!!! It was pretty hard on motor mounts.

It couldn't have been worse than a chevy 6.2L, those are about the most worthless engines ever. Chevy must have done a lot of... uh.... "favors" to get that government contract

An exhaust grinder solves a lot of power issues on the old diesels.
Unfortunately, they also aren't durable enough for the added ponies.

Poor widdle wabbit.
