Anniversary

Postby peobryant » Thu Dec 25, 2008 11:11 pm

It was one year ago that I purchased my beloved 1st Gen. The best 5K I have ever spent. :D

So far the only things that have gone wrong are the water pump, and the drivers side window stopped working. It won't roll up or down. It's winter so it doesn't bother me but I would like to get it fixed in the spring.

So far the only things I have done to her are 4" straight pipe, and a DennyT Stage II Fuel Pin. I'm hoping to do a little more to her this year, but she needs 6 new shoes right now so we'll see how that works out.

I have been very happy with her so far, and hope too get many, many years of great service from her.

Try playing with 2 of them with no money. Its twice as hard. You don't want one getting jealous of the other one. :D

Very true

Just out of curiosity, why did you do all the mods to the auto truck, and not the 5spd? I'm assuming you got the 5spd after you had already done most of the mods to the '89?

By the way, does anyone have any suggestions on tires? I don't ever tow or haul anything (I know I need a dually don't I  ) and I drive on pavement 99.99% of the time. I want a stock size tire, that will last a long time. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Parker

I have had this 89 since early 1998. I got it from a neighbor that absolutly babied it. He always kept it undercover and never drove it in the salt. I put my truck up against any 5 speed with equal power and I bet I would be faster. ( if horse power was the same). One the street and strip autos are faster, but if you want dyno power 5 speed or full lock up converter is the way to go. I am at 297 hp at the wheels even through the stock converter. I got the 93 this last summer from a guy I used to work with. It was a dailey driver year round for him and was absolutly rusted . The cab colapsed on the frame when I took the front fenders off. I got it because I wanted a standard to play with and I know he took very good care of it ( besides from the rust ). I spent lots of time last summer getting it back to a usable truck. It should have been scrapped but I had time and no money so I welded it back together.

There is no arguing that an auto is faster than any 5spd, but most people choose to mod their stick trucks, but I was just curious. I would prefer a beefed up auto to a 5spd in a high rwhp application anyday.

Thanks Brian, I will check those tires out. Do you recall how much they are going for?

Sams is usually a good place to get them but I would look around online at some sales and free freight you might find a better deal.

Tire rack lists some for $152 each. I bet if you beat on them at S&S or Raben you might be able to get them as low as $140 each if they are hungry and you negotiate right. 8) The last ones I bought (235/85/r16 ltx a/s) about 3 years ago were $110 ea.

That sounds more like the price I am used to. I have not bought tires for a few years and was thinking that anything over 140 for a 235/85/16 was to much. I need some 33 12.5 16.5's in a year or so and I am sure those will come without vasoline.

Thanks, I will look there. $200 per tire is more than I wanted to spend...
