We do a lot of contour farming because of the hills here. That means you make a lot of turns. We also no till so as to keep the dirt from washing away. The problem with a track tractor in that enviroment is everytime you turn you scoot the tracks and that pushes up dirt. What you end up with after planting is a field that looks like it was attacked by gint moles with all the ridges and dirt piles the tracks pushed up. Then that is a mess when you go to combione beans and you can't get the head flat on the ground from the dirt piles. If you could drive straight across the field it wouldn't be a issue. We also have a lot of terraces here and driving a track machine over one of those is a bit rough on equipment because it overcenters. Up, Up,UP, DOWN!!! Lol We don't have any drainage issues here so there isn't much advantage in that, only in lower compaction.

Yes, 2 cylinders are cool. Here is my 58 620 John Deere. I know its supposed to have some yellow on it. Tell that to the previous owner and his paint brush. :D

Michael, cars are either Plum Crazy, or Gomango Orange, trucks are black from soot, and tractors are green.
IMO Deere ruined tractors when they added the extra cylinders. 2 was plenty. ;)
pete

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Pete, what about Sublime Green or B5 Blue? Oh and I do like the sound of a nice 70, or a R, or even a nice A or B, but man, there is no sound like a 1066, or a 1256 breathing out a 6" straight pipe. Especially when it has more than one turbo charger, and turning more then stock RPMs 8)

I'm still suprised that is just a little utility tractor. The planetarys and shaft just looks a lot bigger in the pics. What is the diameter of that axle?

KTA, I hear what you are saying, there is places for every kind of tractor, and in our operation where we need big drawbar power for deep tillage, low ground pressure to fight compaction, and its a plus that they are efficient in our application.

Man the hook the chain high on the sled there. the chain is darn near level. how do you get any down pressure on the tires with a hook like that. glad they don't do that here, or I'd never get a bite into the track.

I think it is about 3" or 4" not sure, I didn't measure it. It is about the largest utility tractor that john deere made at the time. It doesn't have a full flat station where you put your feet, but you don't strattle the entire transmission like the full utility's do.[/img]

A 2750 has a 2 7/8" axle. You are just used to looking at that light built international stuff. I had the diffrential out of a 1466 IH once and was surprised to see it was about the same size as a 2510 John Deere. The one in a 4020 is about twice the size and half the power. 8)

Ya it sure sucks. They do that on purpose so no wheelstands. That is why everybody up here has a narrow front end to get the wieght off the front. I had a wide front and when I swapped it over to a single I saved 300 pounds that I could transfer to the rear. The only class I can get my front off is with my dads 2500 pound Oliver 60 Row Crop. In the low weight classes they put the chain lower. It really bugs me they do that. There is no way to balence the tractor by hitch adjustments. Some times the chain actually goes down to the tractor.
Here is dads Oliver with me pulling it.

That is awesome. I've never heard that one before. For the record, I've never worked on red tractors (ok, one t/a, and one air conditioner), just like to watch them pull.
