how many gallons have you put in your truck??

Postby swank » Tue Jun 26, 2007 5:26 pm

just wondering what the most gallons of fuel you can remember ever putting in you truck. i think the most i've ever put was like 27.4 or something. didn't have the nerve to go any further with the light on. i was thinking about it today when i put in 26.4.

I filled up a couple weeks ago; 72 gallons, if I remember correctly.

------------------------------------------

While we are talking fuel and lights coming on, the LE 91D-350 I just bought, had a little LOW FUEL light to come on, just above the words Diesel Fuel Only, on that little plastic panel where the wait-to-start, water-in-fuel, etc., lights are located.

I never knew there was such a light.

I assume the wife's LE 91.5 must have it.

Will the son's 90 model, not an LE cab, also have this LOW FUEL light??

Thanks.

The first - and last - time the "Low Fuel" light came on I got 29.4 gallons in.

I do have to mention that where I fuel I am able to park with the right rear corner high, so I have more than 30 gallons when the tank is full.

That's the way they sell them; I've test-drove many a truck, afraid it wouldn't make it back to where I got it.

I didn't know these things had LOW FUEL lights, until I bought one, a couple days ago, and the light came on on the way home with it.

Do all of them have it, or only certain years/packages??

Thanks.

I am not sure if the 89 to 91 have a low fuel light. This function is controlled by the PCM which the earlyer years do not have.

The 91.5 to 93's do.

I was worried about makeing the gas station down the street 5 blocks when I picked my truck up. The fuel gage was bottomed out below E.

I remember a time when my Dad borrowed the truck and put in 27.5 gallons AFTER he put in 5 gallons on the side of the road  I guess he didn't notice the LOW FUEL

Yes, they all have a low fuel light. It's more troublesome to get an empty diesel refired than an empty gasser, so I guess Dodge was trying to keep that from happening.

 I guess to test the function of the LOW FUEL light, I could pump fuel out into a barrel, until the light came on.

Then, pump the remaining fuel into a five-gallon bucket and measure it.

Sounds like a good cool evening project.

That's a much better plan than "keep driving to see if it lights."

My low fuel light on my 89 comes on at 450miles. It will go another 50 on whats in the tank. The gage on my 93 has never worked right and it gets driven by the fuel light. Pulling the trailer when the light comes on you have 50miles to find fuel, otherwise its time to dump the 5gallon can of fuel in the toolbox in. I tried to milk 60miles out of it once to make the truck stop with the cheap fuel and I ended up having to put the 5gal in cuz it ran out. LOL
