'77 W200/'93 W250 Fuel Tank

Postby matthewh » Tue Nov 05, 2013 7:32 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm in the process of getting my '77 W200 ready for plow season, and I need to swap out the fuel tanks. Is it possible to use a '93 tank out of a CTD truck and get it to work, without having to replace the big plastic sending unit? I'd like to just swap in the tank, hook up fuel lines, and build a little adapter harness for the fuel gauge.

And yes, I"ll clean out the old diesel that's left

Thanks

I think it will fit , but the fuel sender will read off. I have an RC tank in my truck from about the mid 80's or so, and the gauge reads just short of "E" when it's empty and short of "Full" when it is. I can't remember exactly what yours have in them for modules, can you change just the sender? That's what I am going to do on my RC tank, it has the same big plastic module, it's just the sender has a different resistance range than my '92.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

The two tanks have completely different holes in the top for the sender. The 93 is big like 5-6" opening. The 77 is at least half if not smaller. Difficult to fit your hand in.

Ok I re-read, you just want to slap it in and run it. Should fit. The gasser will suck fuel just fine from the diesel sender. Fuel gauge might not work at all, otherwise it should work.

I cut a hole in the top of my rc tank and used a thick gasket and screwed the sender from the diesel tank into it (after of course cutting a lip for it).

Yes, I just want to slap in the Cummins tank and run it, as long as the gauge is close, heck it works only half the time as it is, I just carried an extra 5 gal with me.

The old tank was modified by the Military for use with a truck mounted generator, and the hole they drilled has given me fits since I bought it, trying to keep it water tight and not leak, plus, the tank only fills at 1/4-1/2 speed or it overflows,
