Anybody know about Jeeps?

Postby Farmboy » Tue Jan 07, 2014 6:13 am

I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler that I am having problems with the heat. It blows HOT air but I am having problems with the selector switch (defrost, feet, vent, etc) It blows the air at the correct location as long the the jeep is at a dead idle, but as soon as you add any throttle, it will only blow air on defrost (at the windshield). Does anyone know if the doors on these this are vacuum controlled or electrically controlled or, or, or....

Any help would be apprectiated.

I think they are vacuum controlled.

So am I getting too much or too little vacuum?

Lack of vacuum. There is a one way check valve i believe and a vacuum canister also.

Sweet! Guess I will check for vacuum leaks then. I know most of that stuff will be under the hood, but how much of it is in the dash?

Unless you have a mouse problem 90% of the problems ive had were under hood. Your biggest problem in side would be your controls

Simple fix.....don't sweat it ;)

Look for the vacuum line that runs from the engine to the fire wall,in it will be a check valve. That check valve is bad. The newer dodge motors produce little to no vacuum over 1/4 throttle and those little valves keep it in the line.

You can buy replacements in the help! section at O'Reilly.

Have to verify with your dealer but my diagram shows 2 possibilities of a replacement check valve. I think the difference is with or without cruise. With cruise it shows there is a reservoir on the right inner fender, square boxy thing. check all the elbows and hoses to and from it.
