16 hp Briggs twin

Postby meby » Thu Apr 17, 2014 4:02 am

I have a Briggs twin that i'm having problems getting started. It will fire on ether, but won't run. Also, when I fire it on ether, one cylinder exhaust pipe is hot while the other is mildly warm. I'm wondering if I have two different problems. Could the temp difference be valves out of adjustment and it starting simply a carb issue?

thanks

guarantee it's the carb- this gas today is garbage. The tiny wire from an ID tag is your new friend when cleaning those carbs. there is an emulsion tube under a jet and that needs to come out and get cleaned too.

How new is the engine? Within the last 10 yrs? Carbs on small engines now have some kind of fuel cut off solenoid that can crust up and stick, effectively killing all fuel delivery to the parts mentioned above.

Also those ohv engines suck butt on valve adjustment issues as well. It would pay to check it out.

I'd open up the carb and spray it out with carb cleaner.

Also, test to make sure you're getting spark in both cylinders. Then check the gaps on the plugs, make sure they're set to factory spec.
