Whats wrong with a good set of felpro gaskets, they held 450hp on my small block for many years.

I always used the KS2600 Felpro engine set. ( Its been a while but I think thats the number ). I could buy the whole engine set for the price of a head set. As far as a 30 overbore gasket. I don't think I have ever come across head gaskets that were made for oversize engines. That being, I thought a 302 was the 4 inch bore like a 350 is.

You are correct Richie, you can make a 302ci chevy a few difrent ways but the only one that said 302 was the DZ302 in the 68,69, camaro, the way you can make one is a 327,350 block with a 265,283 crank/rod assy. ;) that makes a 4in bore and a 3in stroke, then put a duntov 30/30 that is a solid lifter cam or i like a hydrolic 222dur-447lift, thats a 350hp 327 factory cam, then some nice 2.02 intake valve heads on it and there you go.I was into chevys fore quite a while.

Are we talking the 302 Ford or the 305 Chevy?

Not to be a smartass....

I have used Felpros on Chevys and Fords, work great and my favorite auto parts store had them.

yeah 302 chevy they only made a few back in the day 4 inch bore basically a small journal 283 crank in a 327 block...they rev like a rotary.... i found out that the gasket set i have was for a 305/283 aka 3.875 bore...i guess summit sent me the wrong thing it was the felpro kit but somehow it got labled as a small block chevy kit im gona just use some old ones i have that are 4 inch bore

and yes farm boy that is just what im building except im going all out, coated pistons forged crank eagle rods, spalyed 4 bolt mains i have HOURS into porting those double hump 2.02 heads

thanks guys

I,m glad you spalyed your mains standard 4bolt won,t do they are believe it or not weeker than a 2bolt main due to the thickness of the main cap, all of my friends that run late models run spalyed two bolts, they won,t even run a 4 bolt due to much breakage,

yeah ive seen some guys who always break standard 4 bolts pluss im building this motor for 8500 rpm and im never gona launch it but the eagle splayed 4 bolts are the way to go with arp mainstuds there pretty much invincible

also gona run a vertex mag on it :)

mprmn08 that felpro 1004 is for a 400 ci no? ive been told that with a 30 over 4 inch bore the biggest headgasket id want to use is a 4.060 otherwise it creates a dead spot where the gasket dosent cover the block

yeah alot of people didnt know chevy made a 302 they were way cool most people say that stock they could beat up on the big blocks with no problems, they were only made so chevy could compete in the 1970's trans am scca 5 litre class, im making a fake one because the real ones go for around 5 grand for a bare rusty old block

A buddy of mine had a 68 or 9 camaro with a 302 and a muncie. It would turn 11,000 rpm's. It was really fast. It was something you would see in a magazine. Very top notch.

When i worked for JS corvette he had a 701/2 camaro Z28 with a LT1 4spd 4:11 i gave my wife a ride in it and told her it would be the quickest car she ever rode in. I beleive that to be true, it was A LOT meaner than a 427 tripower even the 435hp version. that was a sweet job i think i drove every year vette from 53 to 89 thats when i moved on. not that impressed with vettes. :yuck: :pukel: never got to drive his L88 though they are weeeeeekid.

a 1004 is small block chevy gasket. it says in our books that it is for all sbc's. and as far as not runnin over a 4.06 bore gasket??? thats nonsense. what do you mean where the gasket doesnt cover the block? it covers everywhere its supposed to no matter what. we just pulled about a 14.5:1 comp. alcohol circle track motor that was runnin the 1004 gasket and he had no issues. he even had on one cyl. where the firering on the gasket was inside the chamber on the head and it still didnt leak. (we didnt put the motor together but we're fixing it) so hope that helps

oh and by the way, 2 bolt block with 4 bolt splayed caps put on is WAY stronger then a stock 4 bolt block because of main web thickness. 2 bolt blocks had a thick main web on them. :D nice little tidbit of info to keep around. also wasnt a 302 only made by chevy for about 2 or 3 years? could be wrong but i know it wasnt long. rare piece, good find? or did you have it layin around for awhile?
