Sounds to me there is a loose connection some were. Try leaving the lights on with the motor running, parked. By doing this, gives you the opportunity to feel around the light harness to find what's hot. If you still can't find it, put the head lights on relays.

Well you use the wire that powers the lights originaly to turn on the relay. The relay then takes power from the battery then sends it to the lights. You basicly pull all the load off of the factory switches. Here is a link that may help explain it further, but is for the full size first gen. http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/ ... p?t=176263

Park and dash lights stay on with the first gens as well. Turn your lights on and leave it you'll find the hot spot.
