welp, i'm back in the gasser world (hanging my head in shame). but not for long. might have to make a "conversion" section now. got myself a 76 d200 that is probably the straightest vehicle i've ever owned. and it has a service bed on it. i'm now in the market for a 4bt and an auto to go behind it.

anyway, since i'm not used to the light fuel stuff, are they supposed to run A LOT hotter than our diesels? this thing seems to run right up at darn near the boiling point. the gauge seems to work though, and says that it's running cool. but if i shut er down for a bit, once i fire it back up the needle is over halfway to the right. and the radiator hose is REALLy friggin hot. i don't have a surface temp gauge though so i don't know how hot.

anyway, i've driven to and from work the last couple days and it hasn't burned up, so it must not be to bad.

dave

ps. the best part is it only cost 850 bucks!!

Welcome to the club of the truely COOL with the utility bed truck. 8) It is normal for the temp gage to go high when sitting hot then drop back to normal as soon as you start it and it runs a few seconds.

it's a heat soak situation. chrysler actually uses heat soak in some of it diagnostic test. warm engine, shut off, let sit for 5 min and restart, measure amount of time to return to operating temp. as for operating temp, most of my gassers operated between 190 and 220. if you think its too warm you can get a 165 degree t/stat.

good looking truck btw.

Yup, 4bt and a set of stacks!
Looks nice and clean. I love the oldies, it's what hooked me on dodges. My ex-boss ran a half dozen of those babies! :D

That looks real good! But you gotta do something about that bumper. That body look very nice as far as being a mobile tool box. I just worry bout thieves.

It's the same amount of work to put in a 6bt, why not go for the extra hp potential? also a donor 1st gen will be cheaper than what the 4bt's are fetching online (most 4bt's also have gm rear adapters and th400's, so you'll have to find all that stuff too).

Hey Dave,

If you already haven't you are more than welcome to swing by http://www.4btswaps.com and check out the "Build up Threads" for some ideas. Might save some time in reinventing mounts etc. A 4BT with a ZF tranny would look good setting in there!

That's about what my old D250 (2bbl 318/727) got. I was hatin' it back when gas was $1.50.

Any progress on this? I think it would be a cool conversion.
