Being TOO comfortable

Postby collegekid » Wed Jul 20, 2011 4:10 pm

We've all done it, taken a shortcut on doing a task like cutting a board or drilling a hole and it came back to bite us in the a$$. Well today was a great example, I was trying to drill a hole in a piece of 10 gauge that was 3" x 3", having no help or vice to hold it in, I put on a welders glove and held it in my right hand while drilling with my left. Knowing very well the consequences of such stupid actions, I brushed them off thinking "Ive done this 10000 times, ill be fine", about that time, the 3/8" drill bit jumped through the steel, through the glove and embedded itself neatly 1/2" into my palm directly below my ring finger joint. Moral of the story, take the time to find the safe method of doing something, instead of just trying to get it done in a hurry. The 4 stitches in my hand helped me to remember.

Hey now, neither of you two can say youve never done anything like that, I bet both of you have scars of stupidity

Yeah, but we don't brag about it on internet forums.
That's as bad as the guy with "Herculiner on his hootus". Google that and see what comes up.
Actually, I'm pretty sure there's a link on here to it. Pretty funny, the 4x4 forum went from a few hundred members to thousands in a week or so. Everybody had to put in their $.02 worth. The thread had 13 pages to it. I just found it, now it has 15. It's almost the 11th anniversary of the event.

The only scar I have from working on a vehicle is on my hand where a hammer broke and I cut myself. Was trying to knock an axle loose in a FF on a plow truck. I don't hold stuff in my hands I'm grinding or drilling.

I could type all day. I have cut every part of my hands, even still have a hammer chip in my face. They always tell me when I go in MRI machines that I need to tell them if it heats up. I really like when I go to get the metal slag drilled out of my eye. He says " OK , don't move " as the drill bit drills my eye.

Hey dazed you work in flip-flops and have not had injury to your toes or foot?

Well I can say that I ,like Mr RichieO, have more scares than any thing. If you turn wrenches long enough and live long enough your hands and arms will look like a road map. I've had more wrenches slip, break than I care to think about because my dad was too cheap to buy good tools. We used J A pan tools

I'll share one good one. I was using a 7" B&D grinder loaded with a cup brush and I was wering a loose denim wrangler shirt while bushing out my 82s bed, it bounced up,grabbed the shirt, and I was soon wering a bloody grinder shirt. Thank god for the belly fat and hair or it would have been gut surprise :cheese:

I've busted knuckles and bruised myself smashed my hands and toes but never did something I knew could injure myself in a obvious way. I'm a big fat guy so with it being as hot at it is I wear as little as possible woking on stuff. Neighbors complained about me turning wrenches in my thong though.
