Exhaust brake tech question....

Postby JimmieD » Tue Jan 09, 2007 12:00 pm

Well hey, guys, I noticed in the thread titled, "And what do youuuu do" that there's all kinds of techies & engineers around here!

Question: I need to know what size bleed/bypass orifice needs to be in an exhaust brake butterfly valve to prevent stuffing engine valves through pistons on a down grade. Yes, I want to build my own e-brake and the only question remaining is how to keep the back pressure below the point that I cause engine damage. Info for a 4BT or a 6BT would be fine if you know...? Sure would appreciate it. thanks!

Most e-brakes are biased with a spring so that at excessive pressures they will not close.

none of the brakes i have seen are like that

have only seen 4 differnt models tho

they all had a orfice in the plate, cept the 4" inline from bd

that sucker was huge tho (more area for the gases to get by the plate)

they didnt put any holes in that one
