Don't go Bonzai

Postby mhuppertz » Sat Jan 06, 2007 4:45 pm

What I am learning is my truck (and body) last longer if I use my head instead of going nuclear with the power. This is against my nature big time, but I have payed dearly in many ways for not thinking first.

Top notch advice, Mark!

Few things more heart-breaking than spending 100's of hours, 1,000's of dollars and all the skinned knuckles etc. only to end up scattering the engine, melting pistons or blowing the head off.... :(

The plan for my engine is to hit about 75% of maximum power. I can pull 300 hp and 550 torque out of it maxed out driving off the pyro wondering every second if this is the last ride. Or, I can build it to about 200-215 hp, 400 or so ft lbs torque and have lots of fun, good EGT's and long term reliability.

In case the numbers sound puny it's a 3.9L 4BT that uses all 6BT 1st Gen components. That is it's my 2/3 6BT... Hmmm, is that a 6BT smallblock?

You should get the same hp/tq ratio, if you run the same RPMs. I.E. 200hp/ 500tq; 250/625, etc.

Well thanks, Daniel, that's sure some cheery news! Any day that I can pick up 100 ft lbs of torque just by posting on the internet is my kind of day :D
