New First Gen Owner

Postby RANGER295 » Sun May 06, 2012 10:04 pm

I just sold my F350, Lariat, Crew Cab, FX-4, 6.0 PowerStroke that had every luxury you could imagine in a truck except a good engine. When the extended warrantee expired and I started having to work on it myself, I decided it had to go and I needed something more reliable and mechanic friendly.

A couple months ago I bought a ’92 D250 extended cab long bed 5 speed. So far I love the truck. It is super simple. The pump is slightly tuned, it has a 2nd gen turbo, and I removed the stacks the previous owner had on it and made a 5” side dump straight pipe. So far it gets at its worst about 5mpg better than my PowerStroke got.

I am an Agriculture Mechanics teacher and a hobby farmer. This truck seems to be a real workhorse. I am thinking it may be my last truck (and I am only about 30). My wife was suggesting that I look for more and buy them so that our kids would be able to have them when they get old enough to drive.

In any case, howdy everyone… I found this site by accident when I was looking for some info on my truck and hope to stick around a bit, learn some and maybe find some parts.

Thanks guys! I am still loving my truck. I pulled a gooseneck with it for the first time day before yesterday. 13,000 pounds and it hauled it like a champ. I even shocked by buddy by never once touching the accelerator pedal until the clutch was all the way out. He was amazed that it did not even come close to stalling even on a dirt road fully loaded.

The best part about this truck, I just get in and drive it without cringing every time I turn the key hoping that the check engine light is not on again like I did with my 6.0 PowerStroke. Every time I drove that truck I was afraid something would break towards the end. This is the longest time I have gone in several years without being up to elbows in grease working on my truck!
