Another new guy

Postby mad4mudding » Sat Oct 13, 2012 7:58 pm

New guy to the cummins world but not to diesels, Bill from Vermont, Have owned a little bit of everything. a few old 6.2s, a old mach 7.3, some later 96, 97 and a 2000 powerstroke and now a 04 dmax and my wife drives a TDI, also running dump trucks all Cat power. one mach 3406 and a twin turbo C15. Just bought a rusted out newengland special 89 4x4 to do a swap into a nice little 85 shortbed chevy that came from sunny CA. have always wanted to make the best even better and finally found a cheep donor but not without its problems, the 727 is smoked. My plans are to build somthing i can daily drive but also maybe go to the local pulls with, not sure how the shortbox will do pulling. going to swap in the axles and all at some point but for starters Im hoping to put it in front of the half ton axles. trying to get a cross member from screamin seemen off road but i guess there is a 2-3 week wait, Have a friend that used one and said it was a great set up.

This looks a great thing you got going Thanks

Welcome :D Generally short beds don't have the wheelbase to be competitive, but if you're just wanting to have fun, it sounds like a cool plan

finally back on my project with a few changes. Sold my 85 chevy to fund this project and am now planning to swap into my old 67 chevy 4x4. just got my 6" lift, picked up a set of 1ton axles with 3.73 and ordered a crossmember from autoworld www.cumminsdieselrepower, was going to make my own but figured this would save me some time.
