Hmm.. ok.

i hope that i'll find something on Ebay then.. how is the automatic transmissions? is it 4 speed? the shift indicator shows PRND21, but i doubt it's a 3 speed in something from the 90's? so the 4'th gear must have an electric engagement in some way? does they have lockup? was the rear wheel antilock an option or standrd?
does the automatic transmission fail more often than the manual 5spd?
What is the GVWR on a W250 -92?

i've imported 2 diesel trucks from the US previously, first a chevy 3500 -00 : http://www.garaget.org/?car=64377
and the second was a GMC sierra duramax : http://www.garaget.org/?car=96490
but those vehicles had just too much electronics for me, i want to make all repairs myself, and i prefer when diesels are kept as simple as it should be.

You can tell if it has a OD auto by 1) Being intercooled and 2) the O/D OFF button to the right of the steering column, next to the cargo light switch if there is a cargo light. 91.5 and newer have the O/D Auto. They also have the newer style grille. Early 91's I have found are harder to come by than a 91.5-93 intercooled 1st Gen.

Thanks for the info oldestof11! i have decided that i want an intercooled model, they usually have more equipment and an OD trans is good for fuel economy.. what mileage can i expect at highway speed of 55-60mph?
why didn't they build them with converter lock? didn't chrysler have any TCC transmissions back then?
i know nothing about chrysler products, have always owned GM's but once i did a rebuild on my friends 727 transmission, that one was quite simple and easy to work on.

i'm thinking of bidding on this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-199 ... 1e78056829

is there someone that don't live too far from it and is able to check it out for me? of course i will pay as much as you request.

When I was driving my '92 W250 daily, I got between 16-18mpg back and forth to work, 15 miles each way, usually with a stop in between. Freeway driving, I got between 20-22, and that was trucking along at 70-80mph. Truck was bone stock, other than the low pressure lift pump, 3.54 gears, at-od.

Ok, thanks. that was quite good fuel economy. a 5spd may get around 23-24? if there was a converter lock it would do a lot for the economy! does this transmissions have huge coolers? i'm thinking of all that torque going through them and constantly generating heat in the converter.

5spds get only a couple more MPGs. I average around 18-19. Freeway BEST I got was 23.xx mpg.

Ok, thanks! how reliable is the A518? transmission compared to the manual 5spd Getrag? do they need overhaul each 200K or does they hold up at least 3-400k?
what are the most commom faults in those transmissions?

I really want to buy that W250 on Ebay but the seller dosn't respond to my messages!! i wrote that i want to order an independent inspection before i bid, and need an adress to the seller, but there has been no reply in 4 days now, that dosn't give any positive feeling...

Congratulations on the truck. How hard is it for you to get that shipped to you?

Thanks! it's no problem at all, just a phone call and $2000 in shipping, then after 4-6 weeks it arrives to Gothenburg, and then i'll need to pay 52.5% in customs, tax and other fees before i can pick it up, and the registration will cost around $1000, yet still it's a lot cheaper than buying one here..

yes i think i got a nice truck! i made an independent inspection and they found some tiny rust on the front bumper so i'll order a new one from rockauto and get it shipped with the truck, but overall it's in good condition and the transmission was totally overhauled with a new converter. brake rotors and rear brake shoes was changed too.

the grille needs replacement too, i found a new one at rockauto, but it looks like it's missing the DODGE letters, has anybody here bought a new aftermarket grille? is it possible to buy only the letters and stick them to the new grille?

and, i would also like to buy a "CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL" sticker to place on either the top of the windshield, or both side doors, is there any source for those?
