That's the "KSB" solenoid. The actual name is something ridiculous like Kreigelsikleburger but it's what activates the cold start advance on our pumps.

^^^^^^agree^^^^^ Bosch used the same thing for Volkswagen for some time
The meaning of KSB is "Kaltstartbeschleuniger" = Cold starting timing advance system (kinda sounds the same ;), try saying it without spitting though )
I guess because Bosch came up with the name is why it sounds like German

HOWEVER if the voltage is not high enough it can cause it to open and close very quickly..........causing issues.

Just run 12+ volts straight to it and see if it fixes the problem.

I was getting: Tested the fss and got 11.88 to 11.89.
Sounds like I might not be getting enough volts?
I have two wires connected at that post, what is the other one for?
Has anyone pulled the FSS and bench tested one, grnd the base and give it 12V to the top connector :?:

it's supposed to get 12 volts.

Run a full 12 volts to it and see if your problem goes away

So I Checked one wire has 11.99 the other either needed the engine cranked or is/was DOE.
So I went ahead and pulled the FSS, the pin fell out
That leads to a question, is their a spring under the pin?
Or is it built into the plug?
That could/would have fallen out with the pin, or am I just worring about nothing?
Now the outcome, it still runs the same......stumbles.
Whats next, any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I don't recall there being a spring in there and yup, it's supposed to fall out. If you've done the fuel filter, fuel lines, checked the pickup... sounds like the next cheapest thing is to have the injectors pop tested and cleaned. You said that it only stumbles in a certain rpm range correct?

Yes, there is supposed to be a spring inside the plunger, that's what pushes it down to shut off the fuel.
The 2nd wire is to send power to the thermo switch on the intake, then that closes when cold and sends the power to the KSB to advance timing. When the engine warms up the switch opens and the KSB returns to normal timing.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Ok, but is the spring dia small enough to fall out?
I looked hi & low and did not find one, or does it stay inside the FSS?
If I had an exploded of the FSS it would be easy to tell.... :/

So it sounds like injectors are next (kind of figured that...).
So is their any trick to getting the fuel line off and the injectors removed?

Thanks

Here is a cross section of the pump shut off solenoid.

As far as getting injectors out there is a hand tool for pulling them out. But I just use a large pair of vice grips to grab them with and am careful not to let them slip and damage the threads.

Nothing special to the lines and return lines, undo all the nuts and pull them at the same time. On the returns, be sure not to lose the copper sealing washers.

From the cross section, the spring appears to stays inside.
That is what I thought (and was hoping, I didn't lose the spring).

So I will put that back togeather and pull the injectors.
I do have a manual (CD version) on the way.
Having the correct manual will be nice.

The spring can and does fall out. If you pulled the plunger and you're sure it wasn't there, somebody else may have lost it. It sits up out of the plunger so you can't miss it.

I will do some looking ... But it sound like I will be picking up one a new one.
I noticed another write up about having issues with some brands, recommendations?

#1. So I pulled up the FSS on Geno's site and it does not show the spring on their site: http://www.genosgarage.com/FUEL-SHUTOFF ... info/FS15/

#2. I started pulling the injectors, I got 4 of the 6 pulled. The remaining 2 so far do not want to cone out (so far).
Any suggestions?

Thanks Gary

Wiggle them some and maybe spray PB Blaster in there at the same time. I took a hammer on some and tapped on the vice grips some when pulling up
