New from Tennessee

Postby Got Smoke? » Tue Jun 10, 2014 11:26 pm

Was recommend to here by Andy "DazedandConfused" just recently picked up a 93 bus 6BT that I'm going to rebuild and put in my hotshot rig (97 F350).

Picked it up very cheap because its been disassembled and out in the weather for some time now. Picking up a small mobile media blaster from a friend tomorrow, hopefully going to start cleaning off the surface rust in prep for the hot tank at the local machine shop. Going to keep it stock internally for the most part, and sending the pump to Seth @ Farrell Diesel Service for a check up once he's set up for VE's.

I'm anxious to learn about VE pumps as I've always had PPump 12V's, everybody keeps telling me to just go ahead and PPump this motor but if the VE's good its going back on.

Welcome! Did the 7.3L take a dump or did Andy brain wash you into thinking International engines are no good?

Welcome to the site little buddy. 8) No Caleb Mark has been a Cummins guy for as long as I've known him. I about sthi when he bought this PSD. I believe he has grown tired of the issues and poor fuel mileage. Mark Ellis and Dar both tow pretty heavy with their trucks so they should give you some insight on your questions.

Welcome, ve pumps are a lot of fun to learn about. Don't make huge power, but they can run pretty hard.

He is building this for his crew cab he hauls cars with. I believe his trailer will haul three so he is looking for info on a good tow build. Something that gets better mileage and maybe a little peppier then his PSD.

I don't know about peppier since that Ford likely puts 2000 lbs on our Dodges, but the torque curve will move way down. I'd so much rather tow with my Dodge than Dad's 7.3L because of the torque.

With a Ford radiator, I bet the wick could be turned up pretty far and it'd still run cool.

I just typed up a long lengthy reply and changed windows to snatch a pic from FB and it deleted my whole reply.

Yes there will be plenty of pics

Yes I bought a ford it was cheap and I needed a dually

Yes its being built to replace the 7.3 PSD that I'm fighting a losing power/MPG battle.

Yes I use it to haul cars/trucks with my 43' triple axle 3 car hauler.

Mark hot linking pics from photo bucket works the easiest on here. It will do that every once in a while for some reason but its rare.

Borrowed a small sand blaster from a local shop friend this week. Going to see if I can get started cleaning the block and head up to go to the machine shop. None of my local shops around here have chemicals in their hot tanks that will take the surface rust off so I was told this was my best bet then hot tank them.
