New Member- Compound Turbo First Gen- Iowa

Postby 90_midnightmadness » Wed Feb 04, 2015 5:30 pm

New member from the Southeast Iowa area. I have myself a gem of a 1990 Dodge W250, Cummins Twin-Turbo Diesel, 5 speed gut-drag, 4.10 truck. All original, 2 owner truck, had 214,000 miles, on the non-working odometer. The truck was 100% bone stock the day I bought it 2 1/2 years ago in my senior year of high school. Started with the works, gauges, typical pump tune, and M&H M4 pin, and 4 inch exhaust. A year later it decided to eat a piston on a WOT run. Rebuilt the engine in the shop I work at. That brought on 5x16s an HX35 with a 16cm housing, balanced rods, and valve springs valair single disc ceramic clutch and some other stuff I forgot about. (pretty budget build.) This all equaled a hot, smokey, fast truck, that had no use. This past winter after locating a very cheap HT60 and a 12cm gated housing for the HX, me and a buddy fabbed up a set of twins. this made for a stupid fast, very cool set up, that could just use some tuning to help push it over the edge. Could use some advice from anyone who has experience tuning VE powered compound setups. Thanks for all the advice posted on the forum so far.

You got that right! Plan, mock up, tear apart and refigure because 2 things are in the way. My big turbo is upside down from yours, but almost the same set up. Nice job!

Meh.......getrags are just as good as an nv4500. Just have to treat them right (no lugging). KTA and Stomp both run getrags. Getrags shift faster than an nv4500 as well.

One solid reason I'm keeping the getrag in The Roo Hunter as long as it's a ve. Nv5600 once the engine is built though

IMO no point in swapping a Dodge manual for a Dodge manual at any point. If you are going to do it.... go ZF6
