The condensed version is this: As you know, you'll need the adapter plate and starter. The driveshaft may need to be shortened due to the thicker adapter plate. You also have to control the converter lock up somehow. It's just a solenoid, so I used a toggle switch.

That thread is kind of a jumble because I wrote it as I was going along. If you have questions, just ask.

I got a starter, I got lucky and picked it up for $5. I took it apart and found bad brushes and replaced them. I will gladly look up the thread. Thank you for the information, I am anxious to read it.

You need the second gen adapter from 94-2002. It doesn't matter if its off an auto or manual and you will need the starter. As for the 2wd overdrive housing you may be able to use the one off your 518. I'll do so.e digging later.

Great, thank you, I am hoping to do this one time and forget it. There is a swap meet coming up soon, hopefully I can get the adapter soon.

Has anyone here put a Aisin transmission in a Gen 1? It appears to be a amazing transmission. Is it too expensive? How do you feel about it? Are there any kits available? Or will this be a electronic nightmare?

I don't think anyone is offering any standalone kits for them. I see it being a horrid pain.

I will have to agree with you. I love the way it's geared and it seems to be very dependable. But I don't have the ability to write software to make it shift right. But hey! It was worth a shot right? LOL

Perhaps I missed it, but what's the primary usage of the truck? I believe it's hard to beat a 6 speed manual in a pick up useful for towing.

I haul up to 6500 lbs of batteries in the bed, and we have a old steel 3 horse trailer from the 1980's. After I get the trans dialed in, I will probably look into installing a hydroboost set up on my brakes. We no longer have our draft horses, so that will save some weight.

My biggest gripe is the gear ratio of the 47rh. I hope I can build it to withstand 650ft. Lbs of torque. I am reading that 600 ft. Lbs with 300 HP is possible with a gen 1. Is this accurate?

Pretty close. Torque is usually about double the hp on a 1st gen.

Is there a thread here that specifies which parts and modifications used to create a 300 HP/600 Ft Lb Gen 1 engine using a VE pump? Can it be done without losing all the MPG we enjoy?
