Howdy from the German South

Postby HILLBILLY » Sun Nov 08, 2015 1:43 am

Hi it's Johnny from Germany here. I'm a 1st Gen Cummins fan and have 3 of them and one Fummins. Me and some friends come up to 20 Cummins 1st Gen's here in our southern bavarian area, which I'm a bit proud of, as not a lot of people understand the Cummins over here. I'm glad I found this forum, as I'm only counting the 1st gens, as I think real trucks need to have vent windows, not a japanese look like body. ;)

I'm heavily into old american cars, music etc. Have a decent Muscle Car collection, and the best hauling machine is the 1st gen Cummins. Period!

Here's my trucks.

89 4x4 (aut) 92 2x4(5 Speed manual) , 93 Dually (aut) 77 Fummins 150 (6 Speed manual)

Thanks. I had this one before as my daily driver. 390 C6. Still love it, but then the Cummins came around, and I had half the amount and even less cost of fuel, and not a single problem so far. I still have it, and want to make it nice again (It's been sitting for a while and rusting) for a fun truck. But with fuel prices over here it won't be my daily again ;I 74 Highboy F 250. Real Cowboy truck, how I like 'em but it just not a daily drivin' Cummins.... ;) Maybe a Conversion some day.

What is I/C trucks?

The FE motors (390 included) were/are real reliable work horses, but I agree on the fuel part! The 1989 truck you posted a pic of is what I was talking about. I love the way those early 1st gens look. Those early cummins were Non IC (not intercooled), while the trucks after 1991.5 recieved an intercooler. The benefits to your 89 is 1. It's pretty 2. It has bigger injectors than later 1st gens (more power potential) 3. injection pump flows slightly more than later 1st gens, and 4. Has more desirable pistons.

Ah OK, yes now I got it! Non intercooled. Yes I like those best, with the old grille and old chrome trim. It is my daily driver. I might want to swap to the older 84 grille even. And it will get old American Racing Vector Wheels like the General Lee.

Here's my buddies 2wd early also in the pic. Both have the BD Fuel Pin 3200 Spring Kit and the smaller Turbo housing 16,5

It's amazing what power boost u get and not really more fuel u need. I'm so glad that I have my trucks. I always searched for sth. like this. Reliable, good gas mileage, good looks, easy non electronic b.s. Been a classic Pick Up truck fan always, but all the other old gasser were just too expensive to drive everyday over here. Especially with hauling a trailer with old junk cars ;)
