Latest new guy.

Hello all!

Figured I'd pop in and introduce myself. I'm Brian and I joined up to hopefully gain some knowledge on these 1st gen trucks, and especially their powertrains. While I don't have an honest-to-goodness 1st Gen Cummins Dodge pickup (sorry  ), I'm in the process of building a 1987 Dodge RamCharger with a 5.9L Cummins / a518 / np-205 combo from a 1993 W350. The 'Charger is very clean (especially for an Ohio truck) and is already fitted with 1-ton axles w/ 4-wheel disc brakes, 4-inches of suspension lift and 35's. I'm planning on leaving the engine stock, except for maybe a little additional timing, as I'm fully aware of my trans limitations. I'll miss the power of my last Cummins (an 03 2500 I bought brand new and tinkered with till it was putting down close to 525hp at the wheels) but the simplicity of this 1st Gen engine is truly refreshing!

I want to thank you all in advance for any knowledge you are willing to share and I hope to share anything I may know in return.

Later!

I don't think you'll miss the power much, my RC only weighs 5600 lbs with a full tank. You shuck a (literal) ton of weight and you'll be surprised what a little less HP will do.

Welcome to the forum, the Cummins RC is pretty sweet I've heard. 8)

Thanks everyone. I plan on starting a build thread once I get all my parts gathered up and get a chance to get started. I'm up to my eyeballs in projects and am in the process of thinning the herd. My work bay is presently occupied by a 2005 Hemi Durango. It was squashed by a huge tree when I bought it but it runs like a top and still kinda-sorta drives! The Hemi and it's 545RFE is in the process of being pulled out and slated to be shoe-horned into my 2001 regular cab, short bed 4x4 Dodge Dakota! lol.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is my vintage truck that I'll be selling in the spring. It's a 1946 Chevy 2-ton that I rescued from a barn about 5 years ago. I wanted to upgrade it a bit while leaving it stock-appearing. My original plan was to transplant a Perkins 6.354 diesel out of a Massey Ferguson combine into it (I have access to 2 of them) but the logistics of converting a 35 year old farm diesel engine with absolutely zero aftermarket or even domestic support into a viable road-driven engine was too daunting. It turned out really cool anyway with an upgraded 250 straight 6 Chevy from a 1970 Nova and a 700-R4 automatic with overdrive. I decided to stay with the Massey Ferguson theme and painted it to look like a Massey service truck. I can post a pic if anyone wants to check out my work! lol It's sale will help fund both the Dakota and the Ramcharger projects and clear out a BIG space in my shop!

Thanks. Glad you like it. Wanna buy it?? lol. Your money would be put toward helping a disadvantaged 1st Gen engine and trans find it's way into my project! :D
