leafsprings

Postby ahale2772 » Tue Sep 08, 2009 9:44 am

so a while back when i bought my truck the old guy who owned it said he took out the helper pads on the frame for the springs ....he said his reason for doing this was because during normal driving the helper stack would constantly hit the stops and annoy him
in doing this i think he killed the main stack of leafs because 6 out of 10 on the right rear were broken and replaced with a piece of 2x1 pine planking
needless to say the springs on the truck were toast and one of my first projects was replacing them

soooo to replace the springs i bought a gasser 87 w250 le that had no motor good body and shot frame ....the leafs in that truck were a total of 12 on the main stack of leafs and 7 on the helper I was told that the truck had camper package springs the owner of the truck said that from the factory he could fit 35s without any rubbing

a week after i bought the gasser truck i tore it down took the axles out (dana 60 up front and 70 hd in the rear) and the cab and bed got pickled (eventuall going to put the body from the gasser on my truck) i put the gasser springs on my truck and it raked the truck out and gave the rear a total of 5 inches of lift over what i had when i got the truck ...yozahhh!!!

my question is what is the normal number of leafs that a w250 with a cummins came with and what was the rear gvw??

I think 5-7 was average. I dont think there was a set number- they just put in whatever they felt like, or so it seems. My mom and I had 92 D350s- hers was an auto, mine was a 5spd. She has about 6 leafs; I had 6 + 5-6 overloads. No rhyme or reason.
