2nd Gen Duals On A 1st Gen?

Postby peobryant » Mon Sep 14, 2009 8:17 pm

I've been looking for new tires for a while, and found a deal I can't pass up. A guy has a brand new (less than 500 miles) set of Michelin LTX's on a '97 and said he will take $400 for the wheels and tires.

So, does anyone have a picture of a 1st Gen with 2nd Gen dual's on it? Will they even fit correctly on my truck, or will I have to use some sort of spacer?

Thanks.

They wont fit unless they are aftermarket wheels- 1stGens have 5/8 studs and coined wheels; 2ndGens 9/16 studs and flat faced wheels. It be worth looking at the wheels just to make sure they arent a one-size-fits-all deal, though.

From what I gather, they are stock wheels, not aftermarket. Thanks for the information Daniel, it is much appreciated.

Still $400 for a set of brand new Michelin's is a killer deal in my book, even if they are 215's. I was looking for 235's, but $400 is better than $1,200. :D

I'm sure you could find some 1stGen wheels to put the new tires on.

I'm fine with sticking to my stock wheels, unless I find a good deal. A tranny is a higher priority than wheels.

Speaking if transmissions, the truck ('97 dually, we're buying as a rolling chassis) has a 47re in it. We're going to pull it and put it in the shop for later. Cousin Billy, our tanny guy, has a couple of 47rh's, and I've been told you can put 47rh internals into the "stronger" 47re case, and still have it function properly. If that will work, looks like a paint job will have to wait a little longer. :D

2nd gen wheels

Postby dieselhotrodder » Sun Sep 27, 2009 2:37 pm

i am driving a 90 ex cab dually 5 speed with a brand new set of 2nd gen wheels on the rear. worked great. ujust bought new lugs with the large flat washers, no vibrations or anything of that sort. i was tired of the acorn garbage for wheels and trying to find a replacement for my bent wheel. so i just tried the ones off my second gen. worked like a charm
