Postby dieselhotrodder » Sun Sep 27, 2009 2:34 pm

i have a 1990 ex cab dually 4x4 5 speed cummins. its been rotissery restored. and somethings not right with it. if i go out on the road and goose it, the motors coms forward 2 inches and plays surgeon with my radiator. jsut cuts it wide open. !! someone put a intercooled rad in it. i cant even find the correct one. but i put two new engine mounts in, a new trans mount and im out of ideas! anyone have diagrams or pics of an original trans mount and rad?? trying to referance mine

You have quite a few variables that you need to narrow down. Did you use Anchor brand mounts? Did you install the engine mounts correctly using the locating tabs on the brackets? How far is the thermostatic hub on the fan from the radiator? What is permitting the engine to shift forward? Was this a 2WD to 4WD conversion?

I see you are somewhere in SW PA?

i used anchor mounts. no factory 4x4 dually ex cab. the thermostat is about 4inches from the rad... one thing they did was put a rad out of a 92 intercooled model.. my truck is a 90 non intercooled.. and i cant seem to find the proper rad to fit the truck.. i have put 4 rads in it in 6 months. the clutch fan cooling fins are about 3/4 inch from the rad then when something moves it jsut chews a round divit in the rad bout half way down....every time........

I wonder if you have a gasoline truck rad support that is modified? The distance from the front of the fan to the radiator on mine is 1-1/2" +/- 1/16"

i was thinking that same thing bob. my crew had a gasser core in it, and upon impacting a sebring convertable, it put the fan into the radiator.

either come up with the correct radiator or swap the core, is what i'd reccommend. and iirc, the anchor mounts arent that great.

well unless my titles wrong. it says 1990 and the vin matches with original rivits. i bought from orignal owner. just like alot of guys say they never made a crew cab dually 4x4 5 speed cummins in 89-90. a 70 year old gentleman 10 miles down the road has a red and white one he bought new in oregon.

It's easy to have the original vin rivits. It's only rivited to the dash, not the truck. I did a cab swap and used my dash, wala! original cab! ;)

On the pics, get a photobucket account, and then just copy the "IMG" tags under the pics and paste it in the post here. Then your pics will show.

There is also the second VIN tag located on the cowl passenger side which can be viewed through the wiper vent opening and the stamped number on the frame in both front center wheel arches.

Bob, fixed that too. ;)
The tag from the '86 donor was on the firewall. I saw the one on the 92 when I pulled the valance, funny, I never noticed it before when I had it off.
I'll have to look for the one stamped in the frame.
