Fixed My ABS?

Postby FRadisi » Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:58 pm

So my friday night started out simple, I wanted to replace the right side axle seal that had been leaking all over the brakes. Keep in mind I bought this truck early December and I've known the brakes aren't all that great and the brake and ABS lights have been stuck on. I tore down the right side to find the shoes metal to metal on the drums, and some other things were wrong, like a nail being used as a safety clip to hold the hub nut on  and one of the large springs not even on the shoes, just laying in there. I thought I might want to go ahead and check the left side, so I tore that down and found out that the wheel cylinder had been rusted up which means I NEVER had left side brakes.

I ended up doing a complete rebuild of the entire rear brakes system, new shoes, spring kits, drums, hardware, seals, bearings, races, wheel cylinders...

I got everything back together, bled the brakes, took it for a test drive and I must say this truck now stops as good if not better than my '03 Hemi 8) The pedal no longer drops down half a foot before actually grabbing, it actually stops the truck when the pedal is just an inch or two lower than where the clutch pedal sits normally.

Anyways, on the test drive I noticed the brake and ABS lights are no longer on :D
