Yup, the u joints fixed it. It drives, well, like a truck now. Sorry I don't usually leave threads hanging on what the repair was but I thought it went without say when I found a locked u joint. I had to use a cut off wheel to get one of them out because the cap was frozen to the joint so it would hammer through to the inside and back to the outside and couldn't ever even make an attempt to pry it off.


Even though the hubs are unlocked the axle still floats around and occasionally it would land on the locked side of the u joint. Before it could steer the front wheels it would first have to kick the axle over to the free side of the joint. If I made any sense, that explains why I had the steer/no steer issue.
93 W350 dually, A518. DDP stage 1 injectors, and typical pump adjustments.

yep i went through the same thing. new pump, steering box, steering coupler, pitman arm THEN i realized it was the u-joint. i had to cut it out cause it finally froze completely-- trashing my new steering coupler lol
