Wet carpet

Postby dchelette » Mon Dec 19, 2011 6:32 am

Finally got a little rain around Houston, and noticed my carpet wet on passenger side. I found the vent for fresh air staying open when motor is stopped. Looks like a vacuum actuator to control the vent, but when truck is off the vent will still operate. Long story short, turn off A/C, Heater, etc. before you turn off truck or you could end up with wet carpet.

Your sure it's coming in there? I have never seen water coming through that way. Guess it might be possible if your cowl is all plugged up.

Jumped the gun on this. Removed the actuator so the fresh air vent stays closed. No help, still wet. Will have to hunt for the leak.

I'm in San Antonio and had the same problem recently. I'd had some leaves, grass and stuff come in the fresh air vents. I cleaned out the HVAC box and haven't had that issue since. Not sure if your's is the same, but if so it's a relatively easy fix.

Update, the rain gutter on the cab has some kinda of caulking or putty. This material has cracked and started peeling up. The water seeps into the cracks and runs down the door post to the floor. I am resealing now.

Jklawinsky, I'm on the east side in La Porte.

Hello
Can I ask what you are using to fix the gutter cracks? Are you going to dig out all the lose stuff and re caulk?

I have been getting a donor cab ready to install, its striped and primed and I have been looking at cowl and how water travels and drains. I noticed the same kind of cracks in the gutters and wanted to fix before spring… but i was not sure how far i wanted to go :D
Thanks

Brad,
I removed the thin layer on the cab side, did not remove the thick layer to the outside. Not sure what I would get into removing all of the material. I am using Flex Seal, it is in a spray can. Checked this morning and no leaks, not sure how long it will last. Am doing on the cheap because it is my daily driver and do not have the time to do it correctly. When the leak pops up again I will address.

It's a seam sealer that is used in there. My current cab leaks everywhere. I'm stripping a donor cab to bare metal and restoring it this spring. I'll be using 3M seam sealer to seal all the areas before I repaint it. This is one of the products.
